Max Bielfeldt

Michigan coach John Bielfeldt casually mentioned that Max Bielfeldt will be out most of the summer recovering from hip surgery - nothing more was said and no hint as to the nature of the surgery or injury.

"Asked if any U-M player other than Caris LeVert (foot) is currently injured,
Beilein announced, "Max Bielfeldt has had some hip surgery and he'll be
down for most of the summer."

It's unclear if Bielfeldt will participate in Michigan's four-game exhibition tour
in Italy in mid-August.

"The plan is for him to be on the trip, but if there are any complications, then
that will be different," Beilein said."

Bielfeldt is one of Michigan's very thin line of big men, and he is the most experienced player on the team, the only 4th year player they have and the only big man with any significant game experience.

Bielfeldt is one of Michigan's very thin line of big men....

Michigans roster has only ... "four players on the roster that can play the five position next season:
Mark Donnal, Ricky Doyle, DJ Wilson and Max Bielfeldt. Donnal stands 6-9, 240 lbs, Ricky Doyle stands 6-9, 245 lbs, Wilson stands 6-9, 220 lbs
and Bielfeldt is 6-7, 245 lbs. Only Max Bielfeldt has seen the floor ..."

but even though Max is the only post player who has ever logged even a minute of playing time for Michigan,
he is coming off hip surgery so the playing time at that spot is wide open.
Michigan goes on a preseason exhibition tour to Italy in a couple weeks so the competition to earn playing time should be pretty good.

This is Max's 4th year at Michigan and he's been classified as a redshirt junior...

Until now... and it looks like he's gonna lose his scholarship next year...

Now Michigan is officially designating Max as a senior and thus he's not likely to be going to get a scholarship for his final year of eligibility -
and that likely means they want his scholarship to go after someone else for next year...

If he can get his degree by next summer he'd be a great get for Bradley for 2015-16

Last night, Max Bielfeldt scored 5 pts & had 6 rebs but got only 9 minutes of playing time.
Their other two big guys (Doyle & Donnell) played 30 minutes total & both had 4 pts/2 rebs
The kid is productive in what little time he's given - he needs to find a place to play more.

UM's frontcourt outside of their wings, is an absolute cesspool of nothingness. They have zero talent there, which is why i'm intrigued by the lack of PT for Max, and why Beilein essentially is pushing him to transfer next year.

Donnel and Doyle don't really bring much to the table. As you stated above, Max can rebound and finish down low, something of which the former struggle with.

If he does come to BU, i'll take off my green-colored goggles, and think he'd be a viable option for the 5 spot. Not to mention him coming home, and playing in league far more suitable for his game than the B1G, i think it'd be a fantastic fit.

Max is being honored Saturday at Michigan's Senior Day - and it is suspected he won't be back at Michigan next year

Michigan has no other seniors so they have no obvious open scholarships on paper - but they are making offers on 2015 recruits and have already taken one transfer- suggesting even further that Max may be gone...

They actually gave Max Bielfeldt a chance to play today and the guy went nuts...
got a double-double, 14 pts, 11 rebs, 3 asst
Max's 11 rebs are almost half his team's total and no other front court player on Michigan even had one single point, assist, or rebound other than Max..
They would not have won this game without him, yet they celebrated it as his Senior Day and guess he won't be back at Michigan.

either way - Max has to realize he is the fall back option only and not really wanted as a 1st line player even tho his stats make the other post guys look like juco players

Comment from the Brian Wardle press conference by Dave Reynolds-

"Braves briefs: Gary and Carlotta Bielfeldt, grandparents of former Notre Dame star Max Bielfeldt,
who is graduating this spring from Michigan with one year of eligibility remaining, were
at the ceremony. They said Max definitely wanted to continue playing and both agreed that
Bradley could be a good fit for the 6-foot-8 power forward. Bielfeldt, who averaged 5.1 points
and 3.6 rebounds for the Wolverines last season, would be able to play immediately wherever he lands."

Saw that. Lets hope this one plays out! :D

Do you think Torres is a difference maker?
His only offers, besides Green Bay, were Bradley, NIU, Chicago State, UIC, and SIUE. The fact that Geno wanted him, makes me really wonder, since he has misjudged on almost every kid he recruited.

I have never seen him play, but we are already overstocked with marginal D1 big men. I'd rather have someone who can make a difference.

Here is a video- he is a big kid (6'8", 250 pounds) who appears to have limited offensive skills like most of our big men-

What are the chances Green Bay would release Torres? And if they did, would they exclude him going to Bradley?
