Did the PJ Star contact anyone other than an email from Dr. Cross?
It appears this entire article is based entirely on what amounts to a press release by our AD. Plus it contains absolutley no new information. None.

I like DRs reporting, but this seems like he could have saved the ink.
 
Might not be the inside information some may want. This is the AD coming out and letting the public know they are working to ending the search. Interesting to note the number of open jobs still not filled.
 
If anyone wants to know my opinon on the DR article...and some of the comments from other posters on it, feel free to PM me.

Seems fine by me. Thought it was interesting and glad things are being kept secretive.

wow -- what an "interview"...
they "e mail a list of questions" to the Athletic Dept. then print the response whether it answers any of those quesitons or not..
and that response is largely the same release we saw 3 weeks ago when JL was fired, plus a few more words of spin.
I do know that the players have met with Dr. Cross & Dr. Glasser now, and I think we'll hear more about that, too.....
 
Actually, I enjoyed and appreciated reading it. It would practically impossible to make most people happy at this point without finally having a head coach named.

I thought the article was fine. It's clear the university will keep this close to the chest until they finalize the hire. There's nothing "new" for the PJ Star to report... Which doesn't mean they should see if they can get something and report the results of that effort.

So you are OK with the newspaper reporting only what they are told to report? Why would they ever need reporters in that case? All they need is an email account to receive emails, then report what they say.

Whatever happened to investigating stories?
 
"Told to report." That's not what I said. They tried to do some digging at Dr. Cross and didn't get anything. For all of the glee you take when they get something wrong and have to make a retraction, I would think you would be happy that they aren't publishing anything that can't substantiate.

Edit- I do see I had a typo in my previous post which could have been misleading. It should read "which doesn't mean they shouldn't..."
 
That was a necessary move by the AD. Able to maintain some confidentiality, yet also trying to communicate. Nothing groundbreaking, yet it is something.
 
some information is better than nothing. bottom line is we won't know anything new until a hire is announced.

I get the criticism of PJS, but wonder when was it ever good journalism at the PJS?
 
If we are to keep our trust in the AD, (and I know many of you have lost it already) I felt a little better after reading this article. Nothing ground-breaking, but with so many different info., speculation, opinions coming across this board lately, I wanted to hear something from Dr. Cross. I can't make a valid judgement of this guy yet. He did what he had to do with Les whether people are with him or not. While I was not in favor of having Les go (based on the last 10 games - NOT based on last 2 seasons as a whole), I can understand the reasoning behind it with Coach Les's less than stellar results with the student-athletes he had healthy. I would imagine he even had in mind to get rid of Les before we won our 1st Valley game in Feb., which at that time, I was hoping for too. The fan base was getting stagnant and not even sure that a 3rd place finish next season would have rejuvenated that. We needed a fresh face.

Believe me - I will be upset if we don't land a guy that can take us to conference contention, but right now, I still have faith that Dr. Cross will get someone good. In about a week from now if we haven't gotten anyone though, I will worry a little more...mainly because some of our student-athletes may not have the patience to wait it out.
 
only three D-I schools have actually had coaching searches going longer than Bradley that are yet to fill their open head coaching position...
FGCU, Monmouth, Stetson...so we are in good company.....

I think everybody knows where I stand with this admin.... With that said - I trust Mike Cross. I'm impressed with him and think we will make a GREAT university president some day. I also feel he had NO idea what he was signing up for with this job.... He is now understanding why he was brought in and hopefully is looking for another job with the private search firm. Mike Cross is not the problem here. He is just taking a bullet like the secret service does for the President.
