I watched a portion of the Gonzaga vs SDSU game late last night on ESPN. What amazed me is that Gonzaga seemed to be taller by about 3 inches at every position. I just looked up thier top scorers on the year, and respective height:
Leading scorer - 6'5 G
2nd - 7'0 C
3rd - 6'9 C
4th - 6'11 G/F (yes, a 6'11 G)
5th - 6'7 F
6th - 6'8 F
At one point, for about a 50 second stretch before a TV time out, Gonzaga actually played the 6'11 player as their 2 man.
As a whole, what struck me was that despite better than average athleticism for most of the players, they still were terribly slow in comparison to the smaller, quicker SDSU team.
It sounds really great on paper to have all this length, but in actuality, it wasn't as great as it is cracked up to be. Gonzaga is undoubtedly a more "talented" team than SDSU, but it made me a believer in the concept that speed is often more important than length.
