Geno plants the seed

Old Coach

It's looks like the ball is in John Groce's court...

http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x85611221/Coaching-brothers-Geno-and-Dustin-built-Ford-tough?zc_p=0

Geno looked forward to spending time with the Illini staff, swapping ideas and perhaps laying the groundwork to get a game with the Illini.

“I would play them if they’d be willing to do it,’’ Geno said. “From my standpoint, it’s a great game.’’

If that ever happens, just get out of their way. The Ford brothers don’t always play nice.

BU's chances of scheduling a game with Illinois are better sooner than later IMO. Groce doesn't seem like a guy that would back off scheduling but after a few years that may change

I think it will depend on who gets in Groce's ear. Until Bradley improves it's standing in the league, there probably wouldn't be any value in Illinois playing Bradley. If the Braves can become a top 3-4 team in the league (year in and year out), then I could see it happening.

I didn't really see anything new in that article. The only difference is that is was written by John Supine and not DR or KW, but it seems to be the same Ohio schoolboy exploits story that we've read a dozen times already from the PJS BU/Geno publicity machine. How many games did we win last year?
I guess Geno gets loads of credit for just suggesting we play Illinois. I'll believe it when I see it. So far all the home fans have gotten are the likes of UMKC, SEMO, North Dakota, Wofford, Northeastern, and WCU, and this year it's EIU, Texas Pan Am, Tennessee Martin, Georgia Southern, and Mississippio Valley State. If not for Michigan and GWU, I'd think they are trying to copy ISU and Jankovich's scheduling style.

I think the jist of the story was the relationship between Geno and Dustin. This shouldn't feed into any conspiracy theories regarding the PJStar being the Geno Ford publicity machine.

+1 I agree with most of your post. The PJS Propaganda machine is in high gear this off season.📢

Oh come on now Ben! :-x Would you rather we just go all summer long without ANY BU stories? I think you all are trying to read too much into these pro-BU stories. Let's just be happy that these stories are finally positive. smh

I have avoided commenting, since some people think I am anti PJS (which is not the case). I actually don't read the PJS, since I get my news elsewhere, and rarely see anything in the PJS that is of value to me.
I am happy the PJ Star is providing coverage for the BU basketball program. In past years there were fans who asked for this, and others scolded that it's not the PJ Star's job and they are not the publicity arm of the Bradley basketball program. But I mostly agree with Biff's assessment. It would be better if we could get some new insight into what is happening with the players and coaches, instead of getting the same stories and information rehashed over and over again.

But we DID get some of this Da Coach. :?

You can argue that the quality and depth is lacking here. But, for the average "non message board" fan, this is all great and new information. I, for one, am happy thsat we're finally getting the PJS to take an interest in informing the Peoria community about Bradley Basketball... In a positive way. :)

I thought the story was very interesting. The sibling rivalry aspect was fun to read. Didn't see anything that was pro or anti Bradley. Supine wasn't trying to stir the real Bradley fans up, just writing an article about 2 brothers from Ohio now coaching 90 miles away from each other in Illinois. Good job.

Bingo!

This is exactly what I thought too. Why in the world would John Supine write a Bradley fluff piece?

My opinion on this is very similar to DC's post. I have liked some of the recent Reynolds articles, and I realize this is a Supine article, but do we really have to revisit the Geno sibling rivalry story again?💤💤💤💤💤. IMO, the articles are pretty much vanilla. There are IMO,far more interesting off season articles that could be written by the PJS💩staff than what I have seen so far. I also think that it is curious that all of a sudden the PJS💩has seen a need to reach out to the Bradley fan niche with complimentary articles after our worst season since 1935. 🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀🏀

But WHY does this even matter? Good Lord! :!::!::!::!::!: They finally give us what we've been asking for yet we now bash them for THAT. :?::? Crazy man! :!: Just crazy. smh

As far as a Bradley/Illinois game, I guess I read the article a little differently. I got the sense that it wouldn't happen. When the two brothers' team competed against each other, they couldn't talk shop. Now that they aren't, they can. Why would they want to go back to silence if they like swapping ideas and talking about recruits? I guess I could see them entering the same in-season tournaments where they wouldn't be directly scheduled to play like what happened in Las Vegas a few years ago.

because it's not only so over-the-top gratuitously dripping with praise and adulation - it also goes over and over again back to blaming the whole mess on you-know-who...
it's pretty clearly a ploy to do EXACTLY what a lot of people said vociferously before was NOT their job - to be the PR-people for BU basketball...suddenly they are...they're the world's biggest cheerleaders!
I like that they are, but we all know why it's being done now when they went a gazillion miles out of their way before to avoid ever saying anything positive and claiming it was their job to be critical and not be cheerleaders...

Where? :?::? Here's a link to the article that we are all talking about -- http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x85611221/Coaching-brothers-Geno-and-Dustin-built-Ford-tough?zc_p=0

Here's the article before that one -- http://www.pjstar.com/bradleyhoops/x1809305046/Bradley-men-s-basketball-springing-ahead

And the one before that -- http://www.pjstar.com/bradleyhoops/x1260492996/Dave-Reynolds-view-of-the-Missouri-Valley

Again, before that one -- http://www.pjstar.com/bradleyhoops/x192873621/A-view-of-the-Bradley-men-s-basketball-roster

Come on man! Let's stay on topic, please. This is good stuff!! :!::!: It's what we've ALL been beggin' for... THANK YOU PJS!! :!::!: It's about time!

Again, keeping in mind that this is the Illinois beat writer who's stories appear in multiple newspapers, don't you think that in this instance it's a stretch to refer to this as PJStar pro-BU propaganda?
