Here's a publication opening the job up for potential applicants...on the university's careers website.

the only "Requirements" listed are...
"Bachelor's Degree" ..and
"Minimum 10 years coaching experience"

Preferred requirement - "Experience coaching at the NCAA Division I level"

no wonder they get such bad coaches...they sure don't set the bar very high...

I'm sure this was put out there to get a response, so you win. Our current coach didn't meet 2 of those requirements...hello pot, meet kettle.
 
But some of the top names mentioned (Isiah Thomas, Tyrone Corbin, Reggie Theus, etc...) have little in their resumes to meet those requirements either...
and I disagree...JL had coaching experience from 1991 thru 2002...

DePaul is serious about restoring a once-proud program and is prepared to make its next men's basketball coach one of the richest in the Big East.
Athletic director Jean Lenti Ponsetto says whoever gets the job could have a salary that "would definitely be in the top half and it would be comparably close to the very top" in the conference.
It's a sign that DePaul is ready to make a big push after getting knocked around the past few years.
Ponsetto says DePaul is "looking at very high-level, high profile people" and that several candidates are currently head coaches in successful programs.
No one has interviewed.
 
In an interview yesterday, the DePaul AD said they are prepared to offfer $1.5 million per year to draw the interest of top coaching candidates...

I read somewhere that they are talking about a kinda-maybe-within walking distance campus arena along the river. I forget exactly where, but one of the old industrial buildings in that area. That would be huge for them, and bad for us. A good depaul is bad for Bradley, I think.
 
it might just be talk...they are a private institution and won't get any help from the city, and thus at the very best, a new campus arena is still 10-15 years over the horizon...

With real estate being at an ultra premium in the wealthy Lincoln Park neighborhood, this may be their last opportunity to do this for a very long time.

I think a good DePaul is a lot worse for UIUC than BU.

One of 'my guys' insists that it's going to be Chris Lowery, and that Lowery has already told his players that he's taking the job. Everything I have heard and read disputes that though. I guess time will tell. IMO Lowery would be a terrible hire if they're serious about being a player in the Big East.

I agree that it is a lot worse for UIUC. DePaul hasn't been a player for big time Chicago recruits in awhile. With the right hires, they could shut down Jerrance's recent pipeline. But anytime a dormant power within 200 miles of you gets good again, it is a negative, especially since we used to recruit very very well in Chicago.
 
Thank goodness our highly successful, irreplaceable BU coach isn't being courted by DePaul or any other program in the US! ;-);-);-);-)

I agree AZ. With a returning team that is potentially one player away from being able to have a special or "Sweet" season and a 90% graduation rate I am also glad that we are able to keep Coach Les. I'm glad we're on the same page. ;)
 
Good DePaul maybe good for us if we can establish an out of conference rival with them. Playing this right with another partner we can try to marginalize UIUC a bit at least upstate. DePaul would also be able to if done right recruit nationally. Chicago would be a very desirable destination by a lot of kids who play in urban settings.
