Braves Win 75-62--stats

Nice to get the win and see the freshmen play well. To me, Eddren McCain eclipsed Taylor as the best freshman in this class. And that's not a knock on Taylor. He's the kind of player that might get a few triple doubles throughout his career.

I thought David Collins played okay. Surprised when Dave Snell said he had 5 blocks. Hope Sam Singh is okay and doesn't have a concussion.

Collins played much better. He had 10 points, 3 rebounds, and 5 blocks in only 15 minutes.

I thought everyone played well. We had mainly freshmen and a walkon in the game in the first half! That's something I've never seen at Bradley.
Brown and Roberts each with 7 rebounds in about 20 minutes of play.

who was the walkon playing in the first half

It was a decent win. I think the multiple combinations of players on the floor threw us into some scoring funks but that starting lineup was small, quick and accurate on the shots. I'm not sure that lineup will work against a tall physical team but I think they could of slaughtered SEMO by 35+ if they kept laying it on. Biggest stat I like was the FT%. 70% on 20 attempts is a major improvement, including Theron who was 7 for 9 from the stripe. I think that's all he practiced this week LOL. We got out rebounded by 6 but I say we stick with that starting lineup for now. That's if Singh's concussion effects don't linger.

David Collins showed that he wanted to be more aggressive but sometimes didn't execute. Overall great game for him, though. As for Eddren McCain, does it bother anyone else that he penetrates really well then picks up the dribble and just kicks it back out? He needs to shoot / take it to the rim more. And Theron played amazing. Darian Norris is our next pure shooter. Taylor Brown has a nice mid-range game. Sam's shooting form is improving. Great pressure defense also! Good game for BU!!

Yeah, Eddren does have that tendancy, but I'll forgive it as a freshman issue that will be resolved through the season.

Good win, hopefully it will boost their confidence a little bit.

Fundamentals were the key. It doesn't matter if you're playing Sister Mary's School for the Blind or North Carolina, you can't win without fundamentals. There was some real good ball movement going on, and the defense and hustle were great. We went through a couple lulls as far as production and execution where it looked like SEMO might get back in the game, but even then, the hustle and intensity were still there.

It was also good to see contributions up and down the box score. McCain, Norris, and Brown are going to be studs for awhile. That layup early in the second half where McCain left his man in the dust was just phenomenal, Norris looks like a pure shooter, and Brown is going to be a stat sheet stuffer. Wilson had a great game, and even Collins and Thompson provided serviceable minutes. Hopefully Singh will be able to play against UWM, though, because we need him.

All in all, it was a step in the right direction. UWM is going to be a good test, though, especially on the road. We need to continue moving forward from here.

Good points. I do think our scoring lulls probably were a result of having different groups of players out there. And I do think that they will have trouble with some teams if they are frequently going with Brown and Wilson as their 4-5 combination.

Reposting from another thread as it's kind of related to this one as well...

I thought BU kind of went stale when Thompson was in the game. He does show aggression with the ball but rushes his shots at the same time. Probably has to do with his youth and this being his true first game of decent minutes.

As for Theron's Technical, if the NCAA wants to become like the NFL nicknamed "No Fun League", then the Technical was bonafide. Theron didn't really hang on the rim but he punched the bottom of the backboard with both of his palms. I've seen a T called a few times in other college games for the same actions. If he would of just came down and not hit the board, then I don't think it would of been called.

Jason

Theron Wilson should not shoot a 3 for the rest of the season. That's not his game and it's like a turnover every time he raises up from out there.

IMO, the staff needs to work on his shot before they green light TW for threes. --talk about a rainbow arch for a shot---if TW's three ball hits any part of the rim, it's toast.

I can't recall... was TW's three shots last year 'rainbows'? Or did they have less arch? So has the staff been trying to change his shot therefore changing his results til he gets adjusted and comfortable? Like I said - I don't recall... but his three shot looks different to me this season. Maybe I AM getting old. LOL! Eyes - memory... what's next?!?!
