Braves come back and beat NIU 66-63

Looked ugly, Sam got us back in it. We barely finished. I want to see more of JP and WE at the same time. We might need to un-redshirt AD if MK can't give us something and AD can. DSE fell back to earth IMO.

A win is a win is a win is a win.

Some negatives, some positives, it took awhile to actually establish a lead beyond one possession. But it's good to have a gritty win in the pocket this early in the season.

A 100% healthy Maniscalco is my new wishlist for this season. We'll be fine if we have that.

A win is a win, but that was ugly. Play like that against a better team and it's a double-digit loss.

This team needs SM to score, and score a lot, if it's going anywhere this year.

The 3 seniors really led us tonight. AW kept us in the game early and then SM got us going late in the 2nd. And then all 3 came up with some plays down the stretch. (AW taking the charge, SM knocking the ball off the NIU player, DD big rebound at the end)

I got one word for this game:

PHEW!!!

But hey, a win is a win. They were about three missed FT's and one or two more baskets away from making this a lot easier on ourselves, but we had a nice stretch from about 7:30 to 2 minutes left. We need a lot more of that tomorrow as our opposition takes a step up in class. Loyola-Marymount I believe is supposed to be at least an NIT contender from the West Coast Conference, so we need to be on our guard early and often. Plus we have GOT to stop letting teams back into the game late! Not that our effort wasn't there. It was from what I saw watching the game online. But a couple of mental mistakes and missed FT's can do in any team on any night, and we have to stop doing this. But at least we did just enough to close things out, and maybe this season we win more of these close games than we did last year.

Anyway, onto LMU tomorrow night at the friendly confines of Carver Arena. Got to bag this game as well before heading into the road portion of the tourney this weekend.

Not very impressive in any area of the game. This is going to be a disappointing year again. Is it just me or is t hard to get excited about this season and team?

Out boarded by 12. That beat goes on and on and on. 8-16 from the ft line, that is very familar too.

3 pt win over a team who will struggle to win double digits this season.

Why are we taking the air out of the ball with 3 minutes to play? 17 - 2 run and we decide to stop essentially playing offense.

I guess a win is a win.

Again, let's wait until the end of this week to see where we are at. We will know A LOT more where this team is headed by Sunday night.

Nice comeback, way to gut out a win shorthanded. A few observations -

1. Sammy's health is going to determine how far we go with TB down. AW looks like he's going to get his, but we really need that 2nd scorer.

2. Looks like the same old story as far as rebounding goes. And the TB excuse on that one doesn't hold much water. It's desire and positioning.

3. Missing half your FT's is unacceptable.

Numbers 2 and 3 are very fixable I think. 1 is tough. Let's tighten it up and get to 3-0 tomorrow night.

I agree with everything here. DSE needs to step up a litte, plus I hope JE gets healthy soon we need his hustle out there.

WE continues to disappoint me this year. We see flashes of good play and then he misses bunnies and does not finish. I thought this would be the year he finally stepped up and became a consistent big man, but so far it is not happening consistently. I am really hoping as the season goes he gets going a little more, because we need him to play well if we want to do well this year.

SM is the motor for this team and we need him badly. It was good to scrap out a win, last year we probably would have lost that game, so I'll take it. WL continues to impress me, and good effort by the seniors. JP does a nice job down low as well. Back to work tomorrow, let's get another W Braves!

We absolutely do NOT win this game without Sammy...

I applaud him and his effort because as everyone can tell he's nowhere near 100%...

If everyone could play with that kind of effort...

Now, how about playing Egolf and Prosser together some more, AT and MK less, and get Walt some more minutes at the point...he may have taken a couple ill advised shots but I was still impressed again..

Let's go get em tomorrow night!

MK just looks lost out there once JE is healthy I don't expect to see him unless it's a 20 pt difference in score.

I'm not passing any judgement on this team until conference starts. You spend your whole summer building an offense around TB who's your most versatile and irreplaceable player. The day before your first game he's done for the year and your back at square one. JL is still tweaking things and guys are still trying to figure out where they fit into the system.

I thought the defense outside of rebounding looked good. We had good on ball pressure and our bigs played good on D in the second half.

Great win for BU....I was actually very happy with the game.

I think WLJ needs to get way more PT than he got tonight.

I love that Jimmy is using 8-10 bodies a night. Very smart, especially with 5 games coming so quickly.

I think we struggled early because they were hitting 3's and we were not.

I would like to see WLJ, AW, JP, WE, and either SM or DSE get the bulk of the minutes. I think we play best with them on the floor, so far.

Excited about tomorrow night!

Some positives and lots of negatives for this game.

+ The 19-2 run in the second half. That's what won the game, plain and simple. Broke their zone down a little bit and really played some great defense during that 5 minute stretch.

+ Walt Lemon Jr. is fast. Really fast. And he plays with some serious poise.

+ Prosser had some solid minutes. About all you can ask from a freshman.

+ Don't know what the deal was on Egolf, but when he came in during the second half, he played with some fire and intensity. Picked up a few fouls, but I loved his aggressiveness.

+ Sam looked wayyyyyy healthier. Still not 100%, but it makes a huge difference when he's healthy. I liked the look of our lineup when we played him as a 2-guard.

+ Warren can shoot, but I liked seeing him drive to the bucket a few times. Do that more.

- Milos Knezevic played 3 minutes and picked up 3 fouls. Unacceptable.

- Anthony Thompson was virtually invisible. He seems to lack intensity and doesn't like to bang for boards.

- Outrebounded 41-29. By Northern Illinois. I guess that's what you get with a 4-guard lineup, but there wasn't much of a choice in the first half I suppose with Egolf out. And then again, their rebounders consisted of 6'6" Rucker, and 6'7" Toler who literally can't jump.

- Silas picked up his 3rd foul early in the 2nd half... and yet we did nothing to provoke a 4th foul until the final minutes.

- Had a chance to put the game away in the remaining minutes, and yet we didn't. It should not have been this close. After we took an 8 point lead with 3 to go, I figured a 10 point win was a safe bet. False

- We shot 50% from the free throw line.

That's what I can think of off the top of my head. Xavier Silas is pretty good, and a couple of NIU's freshmen look promising (Rucker, Jones). Where was Tyler Storm?
