Bradley fires women's basketball coach Michael Brooks

Whoa - looks like again - some here on this board knew it was coming well in advance...

Here are the most frequently mentioned potential candidates who have reportedly already expressed interest...

- Willie Scott - current head coach of William Penn - LINK
- Jen Garber - current head coach of Quincy - LINK
- Rhet Wierzba - highly successful & current top assistant at Indiana University, Farmington, IL native - LINK

I am sure we might hear of others...wonder if people like AJ Guyton, Cindy Stein or Paula Buscher could be interested??

Michael Brooks was 37-84 in 4 seasons

2012-13 14-16, 8-10
2013-14 8-22, 5-13
2014-15 6-24, 5-13
2015-16 9-22, 4-14
Totals...37-84, 22-50

Note that his MVC record got worse over the 4 seasons. I think Dr. Reynolds did the right thing. I wish Coach Brooks well, but this team was not improving, and would not have gotten any better next year, either. For all 4 years, they lacked point guard skills, passing skills, and were terrible shooters. The best team Brooks had was the first year when he inherited some good players from Paula Buscher. Brooks recruited nice kids, his coaching but could never get enough talent to get out of the lower tier of the MVC. He also seemed to ignore local recruits, and never get any Chicago kids.

I hope Dr. Reynolds will hire someone who will energize the fan base, and recruit local and Chicago kids, and who is a proven coach.
I hope he gives Willie Scott a call. I know Willie, and he has already had success coaching at William Penn, and he'd love to coach at his alma mater. I have heard from many of the long-time boosters and fans that they would love to have someone like Willie back coaching at Bradley. I think we'd see attendance double immediately, and we'd see a team quickly competitive in the MVC. I also believe Willie can recruit kids who will put Bradley in contention year after year.

I think so - I'd even go much more if we had Willie as head coach...

I hope he hires the best available coach.........I would think there could be others more qualified than Wille

Brooks was hired because he was about the only one who wanted the job - if you recall they claimed they did a major, national search but they ended up unable to find anyone who wanted to work under you-know-who. It's why the wise Bradley fans wanted to make the moves we made in January of 2015 - way back in 2011 or 2012 before we descended so far down the abyss under then admin. Instead, then admin handed out raises & extensions to Geno, Cross, & even JG, etc....making it all the more painful to make the proper moves this past year.

yeah.....wasn't everyone surprised he hired Brooks then?

Including the players at the time...

This is karma, he did not treat his girls well off court. He was a Jekyll and Hyde personality from when he was there as an assistant coach, left and was hired by Cross as head coach. BU Women's Basketball will be better in his absence.

I still think Jeni Garber would be the best fit. What she has done at Quincy is what we need here at Bradley. The winds of change have blown....Carpe diem !

Unfortunately, I think the window of opportunity to get Cindy Stein, who has done a great job at SIU, has closed.

The change had to be made as there wasn't much improvement over the past 2 seasons. I will admit they did start to show some toughness and improvement the last few games but to little to late to continue w/o making a change.

this is kinda proof we needed to hire someone who is a proven head coach = preferably even one at the DI level...but head coaches at smaller schools also have something to show...
There are plenty of DI head coaches doing a good job at smaller schools who would jump at the chance to "move up" to the MVC
(hint- Green Bay's WBB is 28-4, S. Dakota State 26-6, Ball State 20-9, even Army 28-2)

I still think Jeni Garber would be the best fit. ...
just saw this Jeni Garber mention...

one of her records when she played for Virginia Tech 25 years ago just got broken...
amazing that a college 3-pt shooting record has lasted that long!!

"Hannah Young also set a record tonight, breaking the senior record for 3-
pointers made in a season with 71 currently. She broke the old record of 70 set
by Jeni Garber in 1990-91. .."

Ex-Bradley women's coach Mike Brooks....

takes over as head coach at Rapid City, South Dakota Stevens High School as girls' head coach

In South Dakota, there are only 180 schools in their SDHSAA and only five have enrollments of over 1,000.
Stevens' enrollment is about 1,400.

Here is Coach Brooks introducing himself to his new team (click on picture to see larger version)

Congratulations to Coach Brooks. Just went through that area and it is a very nice area to live in.
