Thanks for posting those answers, Mike.
Honestly, I don't know why almost all message boards have so many who log in but then either never post of rarely do.
But it is true for every message board I have seen.
Some, like the PJS board have nearly 6,000 people registered who have never posted even once.
Here are some thoughts.
--some, as Mike says, just want the board to recognize them when they sign on so they can clear posts and know what is new.
--some may intend to post then leave and never come back, like some of the Kansas fans did last March.
Or they might mistakenly think they cannot even read posts without registering, so they sign up even though they don't plan to post.
--some are auto-generated by computers or people in order to sneak advertising onto the board, which isn't allowed. The moderators then delete the posts they have made, but they never had intent to actually post on topic, so they never come back.
--and I honestly think some people just forget their password and find it easier to re-register than to wait for a replacement password, so their old identity goes unused.
As for who pays, I can tell you it's not the PJ Star nor the University, and no individual or poster is ever asked for payment and no advertising is allowed.
The costs are covered by dedicated volunteers who simply want Bradley fans to have a great place to read and post, and I, for one, appreciate having such a place.
