Billy Gillispies's Contract Terms at Texas Tech

Dallas Brave

The Dallas Morning News filed an open records request and Texas Tech released the terms of Billy Gillispie's new contract at Texas Tech. There are quite a few incentives. Details are:

Base: $800,000 for each year of a 5 year deal

Incentives:
$25,000 NCAA tournament appearance
$50,000 Sweet 16 appearance
$100,000 Final four appearance
$250,000 National Championship
$10,000 Big 12 Coach of the Year
$25,000 National Coach of the Year award

Evidently, there are no financial incentives for making the NIT.

I wonder why we have not seen more "Incentive" based contracts in mens basketball. You would think it would almost be a commission only type of job like a salesman. Of course it would put way too much pressure on the coach to cheat, but it would make sense otherwise.

Gillispie is a high risk/medium reward type of guy. If he came to Bradley and had success, he would probably look to bolt to a BCS school rather quickly; if he reverted to some of his old problems, he could do a lot of damage to the program. I don't think those are good odds.

Exactly my point, DeWigs. I'm sure he's a good basketball coach, but the personal problems far outweigh the success on the court IMO.

you would rather have a coach off the list that KW wrote in the paper today than Billiy? Give me a break that is a no brainer.

"Bradley president Joanne Glasser and athletics director Michael Cross have to get this right"
"Bradley cannot afford to fumble the hiring of a replacement for Jim Les"

Of the original list KW came up with of candidates..

...one is a JC coach and thus is likely not going to be considered as a jump to D-I head coach (assistant maybe but nobody nowadays makes the jump to HC from there)..
and of the rest half have already been interviewed & turned us down or have been hired elsewhere.

I have made my thoughts known elsewhere -- gotta get someone good.........

I don't care if he likes to drink he would fit right in Peoria. He would be a great choice.

You would care if your son was choosing between BU and another school, and were looking for a role model and a solid citizen as a coach. He's an alcoholic, and I don't want that around my kid.
