NCAA and Georgetown must penalize these hoodlum actions strongly and I think that should be severe penalties such as suspensions...or even expulsions --
the pictures readily identify the players who charged the floor using fists & even chairs as weapons - so there is no excuse -- and even if they have to forfeit games the punishment should have some meaning - and not just holding out the thugs for one exhibition game like Bill Self or Bruce Pearl would.
This stuff must stop -- show some ba**s and hand out some unprecedented penalties to players and coaches involved!

The Chinese have already "washed" these photos from the linked website...... as if it never happened. Gotta love Communist Governments...... wonder if Obama will do the same here. jk ;)

Georgetown fans on their message boards seem strangely pleased by these events as they are saying this is like Georgetown teams of old. They're happy that this team showed some toughness. :?

When you travel to another country as a guest, you should behave like a guest. Respect the hosts that invited you to come.
Georgetown should be severely punished for this as a collegiate ambassador to the U.S. It's hard to understand how things can escalate to this if between 2 teams from the same country, but as a visiting team to another country who hosts an event, this does not sit well with me and gives me more reason to dislike G'town and other Big Beast teams.

Funny.
Here is the Chinese site that initialy had posted pictures of the brawl-

Now there is nothing there but a lot of happy smiling people.

And this article has a photo that shows the people fighting weren't just the Georgetown players-

I will take as many chances as possible to bash any John Thompson 1-3. This seems to me from reading the Wang article that the Chinese were the instigators in this incident.

The Chinese player got into the face of JT3 for calling out plays? Several technicals before that. Gtown players having chairs thrown at them.

Another reason to hate China for me.

I'm going to reserve judgment until we hear some stories on this one. I'm not exactly trusting initial info to come out accurately, given the location ;)

As I expected, this story will become a much bigger story and last for a while before we hear the end of it.
Here are a few more of the hundreds of reports out now on the internet. I am not sure there is much new here though. However, there is a large contingent of US and world reporters in China as Vice President Joe Biden is touring China to work on strengthening relations. This incident won't help.-

Joe Biden actually attended the game Georgetown played against a different Chinese team yesterday-

Yikes!

That didn't seem entirely necessary. It's tough to see the full incident that started it, but it looked like the Chinese player clothes-lined the G-town player (didn't look overtly intentional), the G-town guy pushed him, then another Chinese player punched the G-town kid...then it was a mess.

I noticed one G-town player, who the camera ultimately followed, tried to go after the Chinese player that threw the first punch, missed him, and ended up getting worked by about three Chinese players. One guy was wailing on the G-town kid and got in a good 5-7 clean shots before another G-town guy got there to knock him off.

Bad situation all around.

Boy, I don't know - after watching the video, it looked like China had this in their back pocket in case they needed it.
I didn't see too much in the way of G'town players starting anything or acting violently or out of line. Some were trying to defend their teammate, which most every team would do if one of their "troops" or "family" was being attacked. The Hoyas seemed to leave the court pretty quickly and without retaliation, having all sorts of debris being hurled at them from fans as they went through the exit.
There's got to be more to it though, so I just the perspective through the fuzzy video.

Thanks for the video tornado.

I watch that video and DO NOT see a Georgetown team at blame. What I see is mob action by the Chinese players and most American players trying to avoid escalating this brawl. Granted, we don't see what may have led up to this but from what I see here I certainly can't place blame on the Georgetown players or their coaching staff.

Brawl

Brawl

That escalated quick and it seemed to be instigated by the Chinese. Several of the Hoya players were being ganged up on 2 or 3 to 1. If you were there would you just stay on the bench and let your teammates get pummeled? It's not like in the U.S. where there might be pushing and shoving or a few punches, those Chinese players rushed the court instantly and were stomping Hoya players.

It appears to me as if the Georgetown player was a little aggressive in the back court at first to retain possession of the ball. Once he got possession, another Chinese guy came at him with a hard foul which caused the Georgetown player to react. The two players react and the Georgetown player runs away from a possible confrontation. My guess is that initially, part of this is a result of a language barrier between the players. The rest is teammate protecting teammate with the Chinese guys going after the Georgetown guys with numbers. From the video, the Chinese players look to be the thugs. Maybe another video will surface sometime. jmho

I can see why the chinese took the pictures off their site.
They, the chinese were clearly the instigators, attacking and punching US players, chasing US players, wielding and throwing chairs. Why would anyone want to go to china. A pathetic display of sportsmanship by the chinese. We should have stiffed them on the one trillion, our spenders and tax payers have built their country...we've built almost every country. I support US players.

China will likely handle their thugs and the US needs to handle theirs..
wonder if the Chinese kids' families will ever hear from them again

Does anyone feel that altercations in US basketball are completely different from other parts of the world?

This is not the first time I have seen this happen in foreign games. Wasn't there an even bigger brawl last year somewhere?

And what is the deal with foreigners and KICKING? It happens in soccer fights and apparently fights like these? In America if someone got punched on the floor they would be separated and maybe a few bench players rush in to STOP the fight. It was first nature for the entire Chinese team to ambush the kid. Disturbing.
