Re: your comment on the NIL group
I don't know Joe Messmore, but I am guessing that since he used to run the local Bob Lindsey Honda dealership- that he is the son of Joe Messmore who ran the Honda dealership back in the 1980's.
But that Joe Messmore caused a massive amount of trouble because he paid the players and provided free use of cars. Which generated the entire NCAA investigation in 1985 and resulted in Bradley getting hammered and Versace leaving.
Ironic that a new Joe Messmore is going to pay players and provide benefits.
quote from 1986 Trib story-
"Honda World vice president Joe Messmore, who has said he was interviewed by an investigator for the NCAA in July, had no comment on Webster`s statements. Clasen, who has been questioned twice by the NCAA, and other former players denied the allegations.
NCAA investigators dropped by Peoria several times last summer and spoke with members of the athletic staff and various people in the community. The latter group included several car dealers, and one of them, Honda dealer Joe Messmore.
Honda dealer Joe Messmore, spoke to us briefly. He said that the NCAA`s Janet Justus visited him last July, that she arrived with a yellow legal pad and that she asked if he knew or had ever met some 12 former players, including a few who attended Bradley as many as eight years ago. ''She stayed five minutes and left,'' said Messmore, who then broke off our conversation to call his attorney, Joe Napoli. When they concluded their chat, Messore concluded ours."
