Kai Yu gone

This one I didn't expect. What the heck?? These guys need to commit for at least 2 yrs...dang

This has me worried about Gustavo leaving as Kai was his good buddy.

Was hoping to see him stay and get devoloped more but we couldn't go into next year with him having any bigger role than he did this year. Not a huge loss imo

So sick and tired of seeing this happen with the portal. Kai Yu, Montana Wheeler, now maybe Demarion Burch. Who knows, could be more yet. Wish the NCAA would rule that if a incoming player comes to play for you, then they must stay two years. If he decides to leave after one year then they must sit out a year at the new team he is joining. Something must be done. Totally out of control. There has to be some constraints on players moving around so much. That is my opinion anyway.

Dude I am bracing myself for 5 total to leave, including Burch and Bully...likely Seastrunk now that Montana is gone.
If that's the case, really need some fresh faces who are more committed, tough-minded, and who can contribute right away!

You don't know how ELATED if both Milwaukee fellas stayed and I'd drive from Chicago to Peoria in the summer JUST to thank them.

Great system they’ve set up here. They always compare it to the pros, but even pros sign contracts. This system is an absolute joke.
Seriously, I have zero interest in rooting for entirely different players every single year, and the days of watching players grow within a program are over. Oh, and the Cinderella dream is dead as we watched all mid-majors get eliminated by round 2.
Thanks NCAA, you got exactly what you wanted, but how long before the mid-major fan base disappears entirely?
Sorry, rant over, but if we can’t even keep freshman and bench players around, what do we have to look forward to in the future?
Ok, the rant wasn’t quite over.

Could be that Wheeler and Yu both had heavy competition for the top dog at their position, meaning limited minutes next season. Would love to know why Kai decided to leave with a seemingly great opportunity ahead at BU.
Can understand Wheeler leaving a lot more.

That would help, but the NCAA previously had penalties like the 1-year sitting out, and courts ruled these kinds of penalties were unfair and an arbitrary restraint of trade. So the NCAA is not entirely to blame.
The Bradley coaches need to recruit the best talent possible to compete each year. But recruiting has changed a lot.

Yes,and that is what I was trying to say on a previous post about recruiting.I know Coach Wardle wants to recruit and develop but those days are basically over. You need to recruit for NOW,not 2 or 3 years from now to be competitive.

With this staffs track record recruiting transfer players, I have zero confidence/expectations for next year. Seems like everyone else can reload in the transfer portal, but we have way more busts than hits.

I’m not sure that’s a fair assessment. We’ve gotten Terry Roberts, Mikey Howell, Christian Davis, and Duke Deen out of the portal. BW has recruited a lot of strong talent out of high school too. He knows how to spot talent that fit within this system. Name me a school that hasn’t had several busts through the transfer portal. There are none.

Alex was pretty good, and AJ was service able. I think Kai was always seen as a project. Wol didn't want to buy in.

Arguably a different staff but same guy at the helm.

Well said Tommy. The portal is an absolute joke. At the very least you should have to sit out for a year after transferring

We've got a mess on our hands. My question is this. Should a coach making close to a million dollars a year be able to leave for a school making millions more a year, have to sit out a year? Or should it only be the player that has to sit out? After all, I can't remember the last time I went to a game to watch the coach instead of the players. Or do I remember the last time I bought a shirt with the coach's name on it.

The difference is that coaches' contracts have buyouts as the penalty for leaving. The vast majority of contracts for players do not have those - yet.

Hits
Duke Deen
Christian Davis
Alex Huibregtse
AJ Smith

Miscellaneous
Connor Dillon - hit, but injured
Kai Yu - developed, provided more than what we thought
Mikey Howell - solid, brought in as backup and filled that role well.

Busts
Trey Pettigrew
Emarion Ellis
Kyle Thomas

Color me confused on where this bad track record of portal recruiting comes from. I think too many remember the 24 portal class and that is it. Coach Wardle probably has a similar hit rate to most programs in the portal. Duke was a multiple year All MVC player, damn near POY, etc. CD was a DPOY contender. Alex was an all MVC player. AJ was a stud in conference season.

Wonder if Kai leaving means someone else is already committed to transferring here. Lathan Sommerville would be a perfect fit if that's the case.
