North Carolina's Bobby Frasor injured, out for year

Very unfortunate for Bobby, as he has played in well over the max number of games to qualify for a medical redshirt unless he gets a special waiver from the NCAA.

And since he's a Tar Heel and not a Brave, Redbird, or Shocker, he'll probably be awarded the waiver by the NCAA. Money talks.

That said. Never like to see anyone get injured.

Creighton's Ty Morrison tried to use that route last year....and was NOT successful.
As you might recall, he played in only 10 games, and far fewer minutes than Frasor has played, and used the argument that he was given bad medical advice and was "forced" to play while ill, so that he should actually get the same consideration as a TRUE medical redshirt.
He argued that had the school followed the proper channels, gotten decent medical evaluations of him,
and not forced him to play while ill, then he would have safely stayed under the max-allowed games
(20% of the team's scheduled games appeared in) and Ty would have retained that year's eligibility.
In the end, the NCAA denied his appeal, and said they would not restore that season's eligibility.
Morrison is now a senior at D-II Grand Canyon University.

I do recall that scenario, yes. I will be surprised if Frasor doesn't get the redshirt. Seems like the big boys get those breaks even though by rights Frasor shouldn't get the redshirt.

I feel for the kid regardless.

I certainly understand your skepticism when it comes to the way NCAA seems to handle the big boys, but
I still think he will not get a medical redshirt, as it would take a HUGE, almost too huge even by NCAA standards, amount of inconsistency to rule in favor of Frasor.

I was watching the game, and knew it as soon as it happened. Tough break. I believe the 'Heels were up about 30 at the time, perhaps Roy should have called off the dogs a bit. I'm all for kids playing hard all the time, but UNC had most of its starters still playing, and was defending like it was the last minute of a tie game for the right to go the Final Four.
