Omaha to keep trying for MVC tournament

Well wouldn't having it in Omaha give a certain team basically a home court?? I think the MVC should stay in the actual "valley" area, i.e. St. Louis, Chicago, Quad Cities, etc...

Your subject line seems a bit misleading, tornado. The article clearly states they're going to continue trying to get the tournament to Omaha when the new contract with St. Louis/Scottrade Center expires. It's not like they're continuing to push for the tournament to be held there this year.

I couldn't agree more. They should never give one team such a huge advantage as playing the tournament on their home court. That's exactly why the MVC went to the St. Louis site in 1991 and away from campus sites.

If the tournament is ever held in Omaha, I would demand that it be held in Peoria.

Not totally, the article talks about trying to get immediate action and change some laws in Nebraska to give them a better advantage against St. Louis.

The way I understand it is they are hoping to take immediate action to change the laws so that by the time the contract with St. Louis is up that perhaps the law would be changed and put Omaha in a better position next go around.

I'm wondering how Chicago is in the Valley area? Last time I checked it was the Missouri Valley Conference. I'm pretty sure you can see the Missouri River from the Qwest Center.

By "immediate action" do you mean:

"What we need to do," he said, "is to try to initiate some action that will mirror what Missouri and surrounding states have done in exempting these kind of events from state sales tax. If we want to be a major player in this area, hopefully we can get something done in the next couple of years.

They're obviously not trying to get the tournament there this March. They're talking about when the new contract expires.

I'd consider Chicago pretty close to the "Valley", at least in my interpretations of it. Obviously not like St. Louis, which I love going to for the tourny. However, I would consider Omaha in the great plains, not in the poverbial "valley".
