BU at UIC Game Thread

better to eat a little humble pie early.
maybe the building process with all the new players will take longer than people like me expected.
congrats to uic, i hope you win a lot of games going forward.
bad day for braves recruiting in chicago.

Anybody care to think about and look at their home schedule?

This was THEIR home opener.

Only other home games are vs Non DI, vs Toledo, and vs Howard.

This is their BIGGEST (non-conference) game of the year.

Agreed! UIC did what they needed to do, and it could help them in their postseason hopes in the long run.

As for Bradley, we play an up and coming but still pretty mediocre Iowa St team at home on Wednesday night. That is followed by two more cupcakes at home. Even the Iowa game at Suth Padre Island is certainly winnable, heck even the whole tournament is winnable, though Vanderbilt or Utah St will be tough. Then we have a road game a Loyola which is winnable, followed by SEMO at home before the brutal part of our schedule. We could still be 6-2 heading into those four straight games against 2007 NCAA tourney participants where we would hope for one or two wins there.

I think we will be fine, especially in the short term. Plenty of winnable games, many at home or on neutral sites, that will help us straighten out our problems before our conference schedule starts.

In an effort to be positive. Remeber SIU's start in Alaska a couple of years ago?

That was just last year.

From my viewpoint, the Bradley players let the horrendous offficiating affect them too much. It made them tentative. And they were cold at the start of the game, something they need to fix.
Josh Mayo is a very good player, though I don't think he'll have a game like that the rest of the year.
Matt Salley should get behind David Collins and Sam Singh if he's going to play that poorly- 5 fouls, no points!

Maybe you didn't see my last sentence. So I will repeat it, and this will also be for those that re in Rio Linda:

"This is their BIGGEST (non-conference) game of the year."

Thank you Rush Limbaugh! :D

That's what I meant on my earlier post by "knee-jerk" reactions. Time for us to tell some of our fellow posters to come in off the ledge! It's only one game. :)

I saw it. I guess I don't see what makes the difference. We lost. They won.

Yes...thank you very much....and to think people are calling out Ruffin! Just because people are talking you up as being the best guy in "practice" does not mean things will come easy in the games. Zero points in 22 minutes is inexcusable for a "starter". Hopefully, he will show up with some offense Wednesday night. Would be nice to have another option besides Singh and possibly Collins.

OMG!

I am selling my tix now.. I knew this would happen....

Calm down people... its game one, with 7 new players... jeez...

Yes...but the last time I checked, Matt Salley was not one of them. In fact, I think I remember hearing he has been the best player in practice.

Don't get me wrong, I'm in no means saying the season is over after one game. But if the team doesn't get it together over these next three games, then they're in big trouble when they start playing the good teams on the schedule.

I think my 18 wins this season is to many.

Once again, we are talking about just one game! You're going to change your prediction just based on what happened tonight? Let's wait and see where we are by the time we head over to South Padre.

I can just see the posts on here after we wipe the floor with Maryland-Eastern Shore and the mighty Florida Gulf Coast. Everyone will be crowning us a Final Four contender if we win our next three games! Talk about going overboard in the other direction, but I know that's what is going to happen!

Not in melt down mode this team reminds of teams Merfeld coached at Evansville and when you play like that you don't win many games.

I kind of doubt it. We get more down about losses than up about wins IMO.
Florida Gulf who? Maryland East what?

I'm probably the first person back who was in attendance at the game.

Flat out, I've seen hundreds of basketball games. That was the worst officiated game I've ever seen. Plenty of phantom calls, the Wilson charge, many of the moving screen calls, never calling a charge on them, I could go on all night. I hate to blame the refs, but they flat out stunk.

That being said, with as PATHETIC as they were, we still had a chance down the stretch if we could have hit a few shots. Our shooting was really subpar tonight and it cost us a really rough loss.

Salley, Wilson and Cole-Scott were absolutely invisible and did nothing to help the team tonight.

On the bright side, the best player on the court was Sam Singh. WOW has he improved. His fake pass and drop step to the basket for a layup was a thing of beauty.

Crouch's shot was short again early but he corrected that eventually. Unfortunately, they were like glue on him all night and he didn't get many looks.

We're seeing signs of how good Collins can be and as critical as many Bradley fans have been of him, I also like Sam Maniscalco a lot. He's tenacious and when he learns he doesn't have to be right on every guy he guards then he won't get burned on back door layups so much.

Sadly, this is a game we should have won. We were the better team and the combination of terrible officiating, bad shooting and an utter lack of flow (which can never be underestimated for our system) really cost us.

Luckily there's a lot more games to play. This is NOT an RPI killer. We just better wake up quickly and be ready for Iowa State!

P.S. It was awesome that Steve Merfeld laid into the refs during one of the timeouts. It's kinda cool having two head coaches, in a way.

Go Braves

I changed my prediction after the R/W scrimmage.

If we mop the floor anything like the way we mopped up St. Ambrose and Quincy, then we are all in for a treat.

This is the 4th, not 1st, game that this team has really left me wanting a heckuva lot more.
