Wow, Northern Iowa was in serious trouble with that starting lineup that left Eric Coleman on the bench, even with a serious height advantage.
As I said, I'd be really surprised if coach Jacobson does that in a league game.
Coleman ends up with 12 pts, 10 rebs, and their "starting point guard" Drew Lundberg (a walk on) had zero pts, one rebound, zero assists, four turnovers in 22 minutes.
Dunham 2 pts, 1 assist in a game high 22 minutes.
One guy that pretty much saved the Panthers from an embarrassing loss was Lucas O'Rear. O'Rear came in and had a very strong 2nd half, finsihing with 12 pts, 6 rebounds.
UNI has always been a guard oriented team, but here is a fact....
Their EIGHT backcourt players (Lundberg, Josten, Dunham, Molstead, Haak, Viet, Montgomery, Brown) combined had only 26 pts, 10 rebs
Their FIVE frontcourt players (Eglseder, Koch, Coleman, O'Rear, Barz) combined for 46 pts, 31 rebounds.
In the Illini game, Peoria Notre Dame grad Josh Edmonds had 8 pts. but was 0-4 from 3-pt range.
Mike Tisdale picked up 3 quick fouls, and didn't play much after that. He then got foul #4 on the first play of the 2nd half.
Richard Semrau was pretty non-existent as was Brian Carlwell. If there was a surprise player it was late commit Mike Davis
who had 13 pts, 9 rebounds. And the two point guards (Jeff Jordan and Demetri McCamey) Combined for 10 turnovers against a very mild defense!
Bruce Weber had hoped this game would show who needs to redshirt, but Bill Cole, Mike Davis, and even Mike Tisdale when he was in there all played well, and it was the guys that weren't considered redshirt candidates like Carlwell, Semrau, and Randle that disappointed.
Here are some comments about Richwoods grad Bill Cole:
"he bleached his redshirt tonight"
"There is no way you redshirt Cole"
"Davis and Cole are better than Semrau and Carlwell"
