positive recruiting thread

Let's take a moment to review where we are. Please correct me if I'm wrong about any of the following info. Time to get excited about the GOOD things:

Sammy Man . . . committed so early that he put an end to any recruiting battles . . . now considered BCS PG material, but will define BU basketball for three years.

Anthony Thompson . . . 6-11 player picks BU over Matt Dogherty at SMU and Gillespie at Texas A&M (PJS reorted TAM offered). Just outside top-100 recruit according to some services.

Will Egolf . . . visited and committed over a host of West Coast mids and Wisconsin . . . BU staff reortedly had him as one of their most important targets.

Tyrone Cole-Scott . . . became BU's top priority after Fears fiasco, and they got him . . . picked Les over Altman.

David Collins . . . one of the top juco centers available, and 7 feet to boot . . . Charotte got Coley, but we got Collins.

DeAaron Williams . . . hope he makes it . . . if so, add a top-100 talent to the mix.

RAY BROWN! . . . for every time I've heard Fears was the best player in practice, I've heard the same about RB TWICE.

Add this to nation's leading 3-point shooter (he's a tough kid, will be fine) and league's top PG . . .

Good times ahead! Is this Kool-Aid? I don't think so!

Those are all good points. Bradley has plenty to be excited about coming back next year. If DeAaron Williams does gain eligibility, the talent level will be tremendous from 1 - 12. Even if he doesn't, IMO Bradley has more than enough to overtake the better teams in the MVC.
And I still believe Jim Les will sign one more impact player with the scholarship he has available :lol: (some know what I mean!)

Nice recruiting class and good analysis but this part is plain wrong. CU got the two juco guards they wanted and had targeted as their 1 and 1a.

Don't think it's worth arguing this, but how do you explain that Creighton offered Tyrone Cole-Scott well before they signed those other 2 juco guards? Tyrone himself, the Tyler College site, and several other reliable recruiting sites reported that Creighton offered and that "Cole-Scott picked Bradley over Creighton". (their words, not mine)

This was what I was citing. Not meant at all as a slam on Altman or CU . . . in fact, I value any recruiting win over CU as right there with out-bidding the BIGS.

I agree. Their words not ours, but again, splitting hairs. We all got our 'number 1 guys' :roll: so now let's just throw the ball up and see who's better. I'll take my chances with the boys in red from Peoria.

Wasn't trying to start a fight. Lets just say I'm better connected than most at CU and I can tell you without equivocation that Cavel Witter was their #1 recruit for the point guard slot that Scott {and Tilford from NM} was considered for due to his having three years of eligibility left.

Both are good players but Witter is more of the Johnny Mathes type of kid that CU was looking for. You guys already have Ruffin to fill the role that Witter will fill for CU.

I don't know why kids say they have an offer in hand as much as they do but my guess is recruiting conversations go like this:

Coach: So, if we offered you a scholarship, would you say 'yes'?

Recruit's though process: I have an offer from xxx!

One high schooler told me this once....

"I have an offer from Bradley...."
then as I talked on with him, what he was really saying is that the BU head coach had told the kid,
"we will be watching you and coming to some of your games, and if you develop, gain strength, and fit our plans, then maybe in a year or two we will be prepared to offer."

In the end, now several years have passed since that occurred, and BU never did formally offer, and the kid is now playing ball somewhere else.

So the definition of an "offer" varies...

I'm happy to see that most of the top teams in the MVC are having good recruiting years. All that does is make the conference better and makes for some great games at Carver.

I can tell you ... that Scott {was considered for due to his having three years of eligibility left.

So does TCS have 3 years left? Or am I missing something in the conversation here?

No, Tyrone Cole-Scott does not have 3 years left--
Tyrone Cole-Scott was a 2 year player at Tyler Junior College, so he has just 2 years of eligibility left Bradley.

Lincoln Jay was referring to Creighton signee Cavel Witter.
