Darrington Hobson Commits to Pepperdine then RENEGS

Here's a surprise, even with a brand new head coach (Steve Alford), New Mexico is still trying to steal other school's players!

This thread is about a kid named Darrington Hobson, who was heavily recruited and labelled as a Top 100 player, and he finally committed to Pepperdine.
But Alford hired one of the Pepperdine assistants to work as assistant at New Mexico, and now they are trying to pry Hobson loose from his committment and get him to go to New Mexico.

Things are serious, as Hobson (from Decatur Christian high school) is visiting New Mexico and pulling back from his committment to Pepperdine.
Looks like Steve Alford is going to continue the fine New Mexico tradition of stealing other schools' players.
Seems, tho that maybe Steve might even get trumped, as Hobson is said to now
be on Billy Gillispie's radar at Kentucky.

A brand new article on Hobson by one of the gurus of the top recuriting site cites attitude problems, work ethic, and frequent injuries as issues with Hobson, and why he has fallen off the map in the recruit rankings.
Also just as most of the top recruiting interest in Hobson died way down, the late frenzy of highly paid new coaches with open scholarships always causes anyone with talent to resurface.

In addition, it appears Hobson has a little bit of Charlie Villanueva, and a little bit of Eric Gordon in him.

Even after giving his verbal committment to Pepperdine, he is not just flirting with Steve Alford at New Mexico (who even hired a Pepperdine assistant to try to lure Hobson), he's also checking out a few other schools that have some open scholarships.
Like University of Kentucky and UNLV...

Here's a quote from Hobson, who by the way has barely played a basketball game in two years because of all the off court issues, transfers, and reoccurring injuries:
"I'm a triple-double threat every time I get on the floor," he told The Albuquerque Tribune. "I can score any time I want, but I'm very unselfish. I like to pass the ball and get people involved. I'm a winner."

News this morning...Hobson has renegged on his committment and is now going to New Mexico.

The reports say he'll sign this weekend, but also that he still has not met all the qualifications.
Given the kid has been in high school for half a decade, and didn't play much basketball with all the injuries, you gotta wonder why he still needs to go to summer school.

I've said it before and I'll say it again: The day any "graduate" of Decatur Christian or B2M Academy goes directly to a D1 school, is enrolled in school, and plays a minute of basketball is the day hell freezes over. XC, Hobson, Leon Freeman, and next up, Beas Hamga just to name a few...

Thijin Moses, a "graduate of BTMA, did pass the NCAA clearinghouse and enrolled at DePaul (though if he had come to Bradley, somehow I think the clearinghouse would have decided differently). He did play in a total of 19 games, and averaged a miniscule 2.8 minutes a game, 1.2 points per game, 0.3 rebounds per game, and he didn't record a single assist.

But Moses tends to actually be a supporting example as much as an exception.

Just add the word "useful" to "minute of basketball", as Thijin Moses proved to be pretty useless and way, way overrated from reports that claimed he was one of the top "prep school" players in the country going to DePaul.
