Altman Staying?

Wow........now that makes more sense to me....arkansas....do they even graduate any players? I just didn't see the fit for DA there...but this is wild....the CU boosters must have ponied up some more $$$$"s? :-o

This is a really bizarre sequence....
This probably nixes any future chance any other school will pursue Dana, he seems to be having a little funat the expense of the Arkansas AD.

I agree. I'm happy for the Creighton fans. Arkansas will land on its feet

Well... if he accepted their offer then he has an obligation to complete the deal. Not sure if he had signed his contract or not, but Arkansas is left in bad shape... what if, for example, they would have hired Beilein, but didn't extend the offer because they thought they had Altman.

Legally speaking, if you're negotiating with someone and you accept an offer the other party makes, you are legally obligated to complete the sale.

Anyway, I'm happy he's staying for Creighton and for the MVC... but if he just backleveraged Creighton into a better deal it's dirty all the way around... and if he just pulled out of a deal he made, while maybe not dirty, it is unprofessional in my opinion.

Wonder what Patrick Beverly is thinking now? :-o He had a meeting with DA....PB's parents were also there and they felt really good about DA and announced he would stay.....now what will happen? :?

Word is he hadn't signed.....either way I agree its not a great thing for him to do but it isn't the first time someone has done it and won't be the last.

This is pretty much exactly what West Virginia's football coach did to Alabama, which then started the whole Nick Saban fiasco right?

This is a victory for the Valley. Imagine that, Dana giving up a job at an SEC school to stay at Creighton. Wow, my respect for the guy has doubled over the already high opinion I had of him. Good news, Lowery stays at SIU, Dana stays at Creighton.

Gives me hope to when Coach Les may be facing a similar kind of decision in the future. I hope the elite Valley coaches remain here, so the coaching positions in the Valley won't be considered just stepping-stones to a BCS job.

I agree that this is a great victory for the Valley! I too have respect for Dana. Yes I know there are a lot of people, especially on other boards giving the guy a lot of flack for changing his mind like that, but that happens. It would have been nice if the family issues were worked out before he announced he would leave for Arkansas, but I think people are entitled to a change of heart.

If he ever decided to leave for another job (which I don't think will happen because of his decision to stay with Creighton), I don't think this one waffle will damage his reputation that much. But as has been said, Altman would not turn down a job at a school with the basketball prestige like Arkansas has without knowing that he would most likely will stay for the remainder of his career at Creighton. In other words, no one should worry about how he handled this whole episode as long as he and his family are ultimately happy with his decision to stay.

Is Dana Altman now considered the longest tenured coach in the MVC? The way I see it, since he left and returned, his tenure reverts back to zero!

That makes Barry Hinson the "Dean of MVC coaches".
