2019 Valley Recruits

Article about Indiana State's newest commitment from a 6'8", 265 pound forward Christopher Agbo from Pearl River Community College in Mississippi.
He averaged just over 10 points per game. Agbo also played for the Southern Stampede club team.

Agbo is averaging 6.6 points, 7.5 rebounds and 1.7 blocks per game.
He also had offers from Jacksonville State and Southern Mississippi.
This puts Indiana State one over the scholarship limit for next season, so someone on their roster is not returning, or one of their 2019 recruits is not coming.
https://www.tribstar.com/sports/loca...301cc7618.html

Obviously Indiana State will need to land some big men for next year as that would be their biggest weakness if they don't...
but recruiting juco kids is sometimes a bit of a crapshoot.....quite often you end up with a Chris Blake, Ibby Djimde or Deng Leek....or like Washington State just got - a Davante Cooper (who doesn't even get off the bench as a 24 year old senior there at WSU...)
...or you could get a Phil Fayne or an Alize Johnson - neither of whom were widely pursued....but obviously if Greg Lansing needed to wrap this guy up
four full months even before the spring signing period - he must think he is on to something with Agbo...or that he's going to blow up...

updated with a couple new guys added

According to PurpleAcesFans.com, UE has 2 open scholarships left for 2019. They are also going to petition to have Peace eligible from the start of 2019. We'll have to see if that comes through. Good to see the Aces adding some size for next year and a player who played at a very good high/prep school.

I was hoping Payton would end up in Peoria, but looks to be a good get for Southern.

Valparaiso just got a commitment from 6'6" guard/forward Donovan Clay from Alton (IL) High School. He is currently a senior (class of 2019).
https://www.prephoops.com/2018/02/re...van-clay-2019/
http://www.ny2lasports.com/player_de...playerid=13505

He does not appear to have gotten any other D1 offers. They already received have 2 scholarships tied up on transfers Eron Gordon (from Seton Hall) and Nick Robinson (St. Joseph's), who are sitting out this season and will each have 2 years of eligibility left starting in 2019-20.They have no more scholarships available for 2019.

just last week, Bradley signee JaMir Price and his Rock Island squad went head to head vs. Alton & Valpo commit Donovan Clay..
the game was a barnburner and was decided at the end on some "controversial" calls.

Both Clay (23 pts) and Price (22 pts) were named Players of the Game

I was at that game. Clay has some athleticism, and a better outside shot that I thought. However, I think he will need to get a lot stronger to play in the Valley. Plays a similar game to Freeman, but not at the same level yet.

Hasn't been much activity lately - except Donovan Clay added, using Valpo's final 2019 scholarship - no word if Chris Payton will change his commitment

More than a month without any new info on our MVC 2019 list...

but watch for SIU comit Chris Payton to maybe shop around a bit with Barry Hinson leaving - plus as some other players leave, then schools can get busier recruiting with more open scholarships

Missouri State lands a kid that Bradley had formerly been recruiting.. and had offered - LINK
Isaiah Mosley - Class of 2019

they had already appeared oversigned so I am sure someone there is leaving - probably one of the guys hwo rarely plays or perhaps the kid who was hurt in the cryotherapy incident

Drake dips into the juco market and lands a commitment from
Jonah Jackson a 6-3 juco sophomore guard from Joan A. Logan junior college
He was originally from Merrillville, IN (same place as DJ Wilkins) - and in 2018-19 he averaged
12.4 ppg on 46% shooting and 46.9% from 3-pt, 3.3 rpg and 0.7 apg.
(the 46.9% ranks 26th best in NJCAA Division I)
as a juco freshman in 2017-18 his numbers were - 7.9ppg on 43% shooting and 39.7% from 3-pt, He also had 1.3 rpg and 0.7 assists.
In John A. Logan's season ending loss in the NJCAA playoffs to SWIC he went 1-5 and had 3 pts - LINK
He will have two years of eligibility

little used big man Daniel Huenermann is leaving indiana State & will transfer
that opens up another scholarship they can use

ISU's top recruiting target for 2019, Marvens Petion - from the same prep school as Abdul Ndiaye
just announced - and he's going the juco route - which means obviously - he is not a qualifier for DI
just like his teammate Abdul Ndiaye was also not qualified.
That's what has hurt their depth so badly the past few years and why they tank down the stretch - because
they tend to take so many kids that do not qualify and/or have to sit out that they have such a short bench.

it's almost comical how obvious their lack of depth has been the past few years - using walk-ons and forced to play
injured kids and threaten their careers - while at the same time ISU fans were coming onto this message board
trying to lecture us that ISU was the deepest they have ever been!! - LOL
...looking back - just who was spot on and who was so laughably wrong? They have been so wrong that they have
gone into hiding and never even tried to explain or defend their silly argument.

Muller was so desperate about his lack of depth that he even risked Bruninga's career trying to force him to come back with a broken bone and he re-fractured it

some other teams are opening up scholarships....

ISU's Isaac Gassman is transferring - was originally a walk-on but was on scholarship and expected back next year - but I have to think he is being pruned so Muller can get someone else.. It is being said that Hein & Copeland are next...

Northern Iowa's Tray Croft is leaving & transferring but he never played a game. He was declared academically ineligible upon transfer from junior college....kind of an embarrassing move by Ben Jacobson to offer the kid a scholarship and land him then have him never play and waste that scholarship for the year.

..and someone on one of the other Valley message boards said Illini's DaMonte Williams was interested in transferring to Bradley..

Valparaiso has several open scholarships with all the players leaving.
Yesterday they got a verbal commit from a point guard from Norway-

Highlight videos-

He averaged an19.6 ppg and shot 40% from three this past season on a Norway Basketball League team (Gimle) that finished 2nd in the league and is still alive in the finals of their playoffs. Valpo really needed a point guard and could have been a better team this past season if they had better talent and experience at that position, IMO.

And Valpo just got a 2nd commitment from an international player (see post above), 6'10" center Emil Freese-Vilien from Denmark.
He is 19 years old and has been playing for Vaerlose in the Danish Basketligaen, the top pro league in Denmark. He was a reserve player and averaged 4.2 ppg, and 2.2 rpg in 12.3 minutes off the bench.
He also played some for the U18 Denmark team in the 2017 FIBA Championships.
Valparaiso has 3 more scholarships open.
