Recruiting and the lack thereof

I saw this in the Sun Times.
Chicago Washington's DeAndre Liggins is a hot prospect.
He is a 4-star SF getting a lot of attention from the major schools.
He is high on the wish list for Illinois, Indiana, Purdue, Iowa, and several Big 12 and ACC schools.
This article says Matt Painter was there to watch him Saturday, and Alford, Brey, and Leitao have all been in to see him play.
But note who Illinois sent to watch him play.
Is there any wonder U of I can't recruit Chicago?

Then this morning, Rivals has a lead article about exactly that subject, why Illinois can't get any of the instate talent.
"Why can't Bruce Weber recruit top talent"
"we lose out on all the big recruits in the state"
"there is no denying that he has suffered some big loses."

Anyone who watched the Illinois game last night could see a few Illini recruits sitting behind the bench.
According to reports they hosted Verdell Jones, Justin Bocot, D'mitri Riggs, and a few others.
Wonder what they felt about the Illini fans leaving en masse with 10 minutes left in the game.
The seats by 5 minutes were 80% empty.
I realize it was Belmont, but come one. Why can't illinois fans stay a few more minutes to cheer the kids who finish out the game?
