Sam just got some coverage from Dave Telep (Scout/Insider recruiting service), and here is a clip of what he had to say about Sam,
"St. Patrick made it look easy against Brother Rice Tuesday night courtesy of one stellar game from a Bradley signee. Sam Maniscalco scored 15 of his game-high 39 points in the second quarter..."
Tornado,
You and DC seem to have all the stats so I wondered if you would be kind enough to tell us if Sam's player ranking in Illinois or nationaly changed much after the outstanding summer during AAU time and now first part of the high school season he is having. The more you read about this guy the more you think JL got a big time steal.
New Guy, once the school basketball season starts, most of the rating services will wait until all the holiday tournies are over to begin assessing the individuals.
But here is what I know.
At the beginning of the summer, Sam Maniscalco was zero stars, and now
he is listed this way:
scout/Insider: 2 STARS

Rivals: 3 STARS

Chicagohoops #12 ranking in Illinois Class of 2007 (up from mid-20's last summer):

Here is an article from last summer detailing Sam moving up:

Sam was listed on the 2nd team All-City in Chicago:

I find it surprising that Sam hasn't actually dropped in the ratings, as generally when a kid commits to a mid-major, his stock seems to drop.
A perfect example was Mike Bizoukas. He was a virtual unknown as a junior, then gained a bit over the summer. But when he announced he was going to sign with UNI, he was finally listed by the major services as zero stars.
Then just as soon as he signs with DePaul, the national services skyrocket the kid.
Now he is listed in the Top 40 among point guards nationally, and has 3 STARS by scout (compared to 2 for Sam), and all this skyrocketing took place between August and November, when the kid isn't even playing AT ALL, so it is NOT based on any peformance by the player, only on the perception by the rating services because of who he signs with.
Just to show that the people who still know these kids the best are in total disagreement, just look at chicagohoops, who have Sam rated as high in Illinois as Bizoukas is rated in Indiana, which just happens to be way less deep in talent.
So obviously chicagohoops has not boosted Bizoukas just because he signs with DePaul.
