Bruce Weber-Oklahoma?

Coaches are getting smart and bolting before they are fired...unless you are really elite...people want change after 6 or 7 years.

Weber is pretty secure at Illinois but in case you didn't notice....Painter just recently parlayed his flirting with Missouri into a BIG TIME raise and extension...

Bruce Weber isn't stupid -- and I have to think that's exactly what he's doing as well......if there's a time to market yourself -- it's when you're winning and when they come calling....
Otherwise you can miss your window of opportunity....
Keno jumped at the right time, but Chris Lowery did not....

btw -- a year ago -- recall that Tim Jankovich's name was even being thrown out as possible head coach at BCS schools...
Jank missed his window, though and I guarantee nobody's gonna give Jank a call this year...

If BW leaves could we keep Sammy???? ..

honestly -- nobody really knows what will happen...but I will go on record and predict this...

If Bruce Weber leaves and takes his entire coaching staff with him elsewhere, and if the NCAA nails every single D-I Program with severe penalties, even the death penalty -- such that the only remaining D-I program left in America is Bradley...and even half the better D-II programs fold..and even if the city of Peoria and fans roll out the red carpet begging for Sam to come back to Bradley ....duhhh..it won't happen. ;)

Good point..but Im not sure Guenther wouldnt like the idea of making a change, and not having to pay for it

How secure is his job? Been hearing a lot of fans down there have been calling for a change. Besides the real question becomes are they going to force the revamping of the coaching staff. Heard the only one staying besides BS is JH. If that would be the case then would BW get out while the getting is good?
Of course IMO OK could be even tougher the IL as far as wanting a winner

in May of 2009 -- less than two years ago -- Weber secured a 50% pay raise to $1.5 million base plus additives - bringing his package to $2 mil...and was extended through the end of 2015!!!

That means in order for Illinois to try to buy out his contract, they would have to spend $6-8 million.....and it just won't happen now or even next year

There may be a vocal anti-Bruce Weber clan...but Weber also has very strong support among other powerful boosters.......

Weber is only secure because of his contract extension from when the better recruiting classes were beginning to commit. That momentum has fizzled. I doubt Weber would leave that much $$$ on the table, but there would be a lot of happy people if he did.

It would be an interesting fresh start for Weber if he bolted.

Like coach ford says, we don't want anyone that doesn't want us..

only 1 random source said there was mutual interest between OK and Weber.

All Weber has said is that he got a phone call.

he got a phone call from Oregon last year, he got a phone call from Tennessee (and pitched Cuonzo (sp) Martin)

to go to a worse program with your best recruiting class ever coming in next year....would be the dumbest move in coaching history

If you don't want Sammy, you must not watch much basketball. He would be our MVP next season easy.

I was a huge fan of Sammy's. He has tremendous abilities, however, that doesn't change the fact that he wants nothing to do with Bradley basketball, and as coach ford says, if they don't want us, we don't want them.

We can agree to disagree on this one, especially easily. Would he have been our leader? Yes, but he chose a different path. He took an emotional decisions and as coach said burned a few bridges. I'm betting one of them was a bridge to far.

For his sake he better hope BAM does not split.

Weber isn't going anywhere. But even if he did leave Illinois, Sammy would have more than a dozen BCS offers to choose from. In fact he had to trim his list of suitors down to 10 to turn in to Bradley to get his release.

There is nothing that shows us that S.M. would be our best player, we do not even know if he will be close to 100% because of his injuries, the only problem I have with him is he came here to play for BU and try and win a championship, he is leaving unfinished business and also leaving his teammates; as team captain I do not agree that this was a good decision.

How would he have any idea who is interested in him? Isn't that a tampering issue?

That is if they talked to him directly but we know now days these kids have handlers that do the bidding. Also, it could be that his dad made a few phone calls, word gets out and the dance begins.
