mizzou contacts painter

As a Mizzou fan, I'd like to see this, but it seems like a lateral move at best for Painter. Also from stltoday.com.. Gene Keady says he does not think this is a move to extort more money from Purdue.. "Some have speculated that word of an interest from Painter has been leaked for leverage at Purdue, but Keady said, "He's not the type of guy" to do that."

Matt would be a fool, Purdue competes in a better conference with a better Market than Mizzou. He has proven he can have success there, why would he go to Mizzou? Zero upside from what I can see.

Absolutely agree! IMO Painter will not be headed to Mizzou.

MONEY. He is the 8th highest paid coach in the B10 It is stated in his contract that he has an out clause if they are going to offer him significantly more than the 1.3 mil he makes this year at PU, Mizzou offered Anderson 2mil to stay. Along with that the best PU recruiting class in 20 years is leaving with only 1 shared Big Ten title. Add to that the facilities at PU are light years away from what many other schools have.

Mizzou's AD meeting with Painter today in Florida.. where Painter is vacationing with his family.
Missouri has reportedly offered $14 Mil over 7 years.
Sources say they are close to a deal but it is not done yet.

Interesting rumor.. and I stress it is just a rumor.. but Lusk was mentioned as a replacement for Painter if Painter takes the Missouri job.

rumor that Purdue is already covering the possible loss by plananing to contact Kevin Stallings if Painter leaves...

That would make more sense to me.
Also an update from the Post-Dispatch on the Missouri offer.."Multiple sources have suggested Missouri is prepared to offer Painter a package between $2 million and $2.3 million a year for five to seven years."

It's always money. Especially when they say it's not about the money.

Do you mean that facilities at PU are really good or really bad?

I also saw some comments that one reason Paul Lusk didn't leave Purdue is that he wants to take over when Painter leaves...
he'd possibly rename the fan section called the Paint Crew ...as the Paul Bearers....;)

Take the money and run! Would you blame him?

Why do you think Purdue is a better market? For sports in general Purdue is 3rd in line in the state of Indiana behind IU(I know, they are bad right now but they do have a huge following) and ND. Mizzou is THE team in Missouri. Better conference- thats debatable currently, Ill give you historically but currently its debatable.

Big 10 Higher RPI
More Teams in NCAA tournament
More Tradition
Makes more Money

I'll give the big 12 die hard lovers a tie.........but no way is the big 12 better currently

Don't they say. "Once a Boilermaker always a Boilermaker" ?

This biggest reason I want Painter to stay....Missouri doesn't deserve to get such a steal for the wrong reasons. I mean reasons like Painter is unhappy with the AD or facilities. How can you go lateral or even down to a new program from a place you have played and coached. Purdue fans will revolt if they let him go.

Painter met with Missouri today and is interested, but he wants time to make a decision-

Purdue students tried to put together a rally via Facebook to show support for Matt Painter to get him to stay at Purdue. They had hoped to have hundreds of fans and students show up.
Instead, less than a dozen showed up! I guess nobody really cares!
Less than a dozen come to Painter rally

Students stunned at low rally turnout

I guess I meant competitively. The Big 10 had 2 more teams in the tourney, and one of those was the most questionable choices of the tourney in Michigan State.

Of Course the Big 10 has more money, they have the Big 10 network with fewer schools to split it amongst. I really wanted the Big 10 to get Mizzou rather than Nebraska, because outside of football Nebraska doesnt really bring anything to the table, especially in basketball when Wichita absolutely THROTTLED them.

Anyway, the main point of my post was that there are 3 major(BCS) Division 1 NCAA athletic programs in the state of Indiana in IU, Purdue, and Notre Dame. In Missouri, there is only Mizzou. The ENTIRE state rallies around Mizzou. As a coach I would love to have the kind of support that Mizzou fans, as misguided sometimes as it can be, give that university. Not to mention Mizzou Arena is a great venue for college basketball and is basically brand new.

gotcha main point.

keep this between you and me....the big ten was 1-7 against big 12 teams this year....but 5 of those losses were either Kansas or Texas and Ohio State, Purdue, MSU, Wisconsin (only KSU in tourney) didn't get a shot at any big 12 teams.

and I hate Mizzou
