PJ Star now reverses themselves

This is the kind of stuff that happens when two message boards attempt to be the main place of gathering for a group of fans.

This is the way I view it...

The PJS Message board used to be the ONLY place of gathering for fans... and of all kinds of teams. With many teams supported, there'd be some checks-n-balances on arguments. Which can be good. But I often felt it was Bradley vs ISU, SIU and UIUC. Outnumbered all the time. Add to that, the moderating crew was almost all ISU fans.

Then BradleyFans was started. It was to be a place of gathering for Bradley Fans created and moderated by Bradley Fans.

I would have to say it slowly got going. Probably more traffic at the PJS board for a while after this one started. Heck - I even preferred hanging out there more than here in the beginning. But I remember the day I chose to leave that board. It was the day Bradley lost to SIU in the MVCT Championship. The mindless/worthless honks over there that had Bradley fans outnumbered spewing crap about playing so bad and ugly and FOR SURE gonna be left out of the NCAA. I was done - couldn't hold a serious conversation with people stuck-on-stupid.

Then Bradley advances to the Sweet 16. >>BLAM<< Huge national exposure. Now people from ALL OVER the country wanting to talk Bradley basketball. Where would they go? I suspect a search for a "bradley basketball fans message board" brought this board up more so than a Peoria Journal Star Sports Forums would.

So with an immediate influx of readers and subscribers, this board became the more "popular" hangout for Bradley Fans to visit.

And now we have a battle between the 2 boards? No - sorry.

Both boards aren't competing to be the place where fans hang out. Fans hang out here.

Whatever hangs out elsewhere are fans of other teams, people who have deservedly been banned from here, and some (like you, maybe) looking for a different perspective from others than here... plus the rest that are Tornado-Haters. It's amazing how some people let "tornado-hate" consume them. I find it quite comical actually.

Anyway - that's how I see how the two boards are.

Bradley hired a search firm so that info. would not leak out, Dr.Cross is not going to comment on interviews or anything else that has to do with hiring a new coach, a press conference will likely happen with the introduction of our new coach so until then anything we hear is pure speculation.

I think you are 100% right real fan. Anything that emerges about a candidate or a possible "interview" is almost certainly not coming from, or initiated by Bradley

I can't stand the PJstar...they never have anything good (and now anything truthful) to say about BU.

Maybe JL hasn't even really been canned.

Sort of off topic - was just talking to a buddy of mine (that doesn't post here) said that when he was walking through the parking deck at one of Peoria's fine downtown hotels last week (Wednesday) he saw a gentleman getting out of his car in a black track suit with a big UNC Tarheels logo on the chest. He had on glasses, a hat, and was carrying a clipboard. He looked very much like a coach.

So this buddy of mine, goes out to the UNC website and swares that it was this guy: http://tarheelblue.cstv.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/haase_jerod00.html

Could have been in town for the sectional games or I suppose...an interview. Didn't Cross say he was going to interview folks as early as last Wednesday.

Would you go to interview wearing gear from current job?

Last I checked, the other board's main goal is to talk about this board, mostly by people who are no longer welcome on this board. "The purge" made this board 100 times better, but made the other one 100 times worse. No reason to go there anymore.

Nope...but I might travel in my comfy gear.

My pal had no idea where he was going and I did say he could've been here to scout the ihsa games.

I don't know a whole lot about him, but I'd take someone from the UNC tradition for sure.

All fair points.

This is the one part where I feel there's some truth. Ultimately, a message board run by a newspaper is NOT the place for the #1 fan message board for a team to be located. It doesn't matter how good the board is or isn't. In fact, Bradley was among the very last fan bases to finally get their own independent message board, which was important, IMO, regardless of how the message board runs.

Adding some other thoughts to the rest of your post.

I'm definitely not trying to disparage the pjstar for having a dedicated Bradley board, or the posters that choose or have to post there, but ultimately a site like bradleyfans is a better platform for fan posting than a message board where BU has to share with all the high school sports and every other local team.

As for me, I find it much easier to post about non-BU college basketball subjects on that board, so that's that.

Yeah.....classy group over there. People saying things like "break a leg Sammy....literally" and "maybe Sammy can get two coaches fired". Those are just sad statements from people that seem to be questioning someone else's character!

I can't speak for the 'break a leg' one - pretty extreme IMO, not really appropriate. I did post the 'get two coaches fired' one though. A lot of Illini fans are really frustrated with Weber right now, so I thought it was funny. Ron Guenther may not be returning next year, and Illinois has been underachieving the past few years relative to how Weber's predecessors had performed (ever since he got HIS players in there ironically). Just a poor attempt at humor I guess.

Here's even more evidence of how these newspaper stories take on a life of their own...

Based purely on the speculative list in the PJS, now a Wisconsin newspaper has a story saying Wisconsin assistant Greg Gard & UW-M head Coach Rob Jeter
"are among the potential candidates for the coaching vacancy at Bradley"

The article is titled "UW men's basketball: Gard, Jeter candidates at Bradley?"

..remember - nobody knows at all if they are candidates...they were simply names listed by someone at the PJ Star who thought they might be good candidates...

I don't have a problem with that. A school isn't going to come out and say here is a list of possibilities for our coach. They don't want to let everyone know who is competing for the coach. I think you have to infer who MAY be interested in the job.

so let's say....
I put out a list of possible candidates and I say that I'd like to see Jim Molinari as one of them...

Then the press in Macomb goes with an article saying that Jim Molinari is a leading candidate for the open Bradley job and might go for an interview...

you'd think that was good journalism??

It's NOT -- it's totally hypothetical, speculative, and imaginary being reported as a fact.....

No, but they can say that "it is being reported that Jim Molinari is a possible candidate for the BU job." In your example, that is a fact. If there is no news, you have to say something, much like WEEK running the same story on Jim Les being fired for three days, with the same video montage and story text.

???????? what ????
I disagree.........it is NOT being REPORTED ...there's a big difference in
a name being mentioned in speculation and being "reported" as being considered...
