PJ Star- BU guard asks for release

One thing about T is that he is passionate and he backs up what he believes and to that I respect him. Do I agree with him? Sometimes I do and sometimes I do not but would I want him in my corner if I needed someone. Hell YES! There are a few of the other posters that I feel the same way.

Passion is the word of the day! When it is out there and world collides it can be messy. When it is in sync the world sings. We all happen to be on a collision.

You guys were all right. I don't know what all us anti-Les guys were thinking. This team is done. We'll be in division II before we know it. I'm sorry we got the coach fired. We should have listened. Continue to smugly pat yourselves on the back knowing that you are so much wiser than the prez and all of us brainwashed followers. Go Illini!

+1:)

Calling SM a quitter is a bit over the top. ESPECIALLY if you are a BU fan who has watched this kid play. He's the kid that left EVERYTHING on the court EVERY SINGLE GAME HE PLAYED IN. Did he not seriously consider playing through a painful injury for the remainder of this season to give this team a better chance to succeed?

To take a phrase out of Charlie Sheen's notebook...this kid is WINNING!

Do I agree with SM possibly transferring to UofI or anther school? NO! But that's because the kid is a stud and I think everyone will agree they WANT HIM to be in a BU uniform next year. To try and call the kid a quitter is just hogwash.

So Sam is going to leave Bradley to go to UIUC for sports broadcasting?

Leaving a school that has produced 3 Hall of Fame broadcasters in Chick Hearn, Jack Brickhouse, and Charlie Steiner AND Ralph Lawler to go to a school that has produced famed big ten network broadcaster Stephen Bardo?

..... I can't help but visualize you in the corner of a dark room crying while typing them out. We clearly disagree about a lot of things.

IMO, a little early to call this a sinking ship.... we haven't seen the new hire. While I have my extreme doubts I am taking a wait and see approach.

It's a little too easy to see which posters are reasonable and open-minded versus those who are bitter, extremist and panicking....... The sun's gonna come up tomorrow fellas. BU Basketball WILL be OK..... just give it a chance. All of these cryptic, cute little messages do nothing but creep out the players and the recruits.... I know they sure creep me out. :?

IMO how badly the players want to proof the BU administration wrong for JL will determine how much of a sinking ship this is......we will see.......and of course how good a recruiter the new coach is will determine it long term. The new coach should be in a much better position to recruit than JL was thanks to JL.

My 10 year old son is not taking this news well at all. Sammy has been a Brave almost as long as he can remember. He has a #5 Bradley shirt he wears all the time. He happened to wear that shirt when were at the tourney game last year against Creighton and had his big game. He just had to wear that shirt again the next day. So we washed it out in the hotel sink. I hope for his sake even more than mine that maybe he will be back. If not, he will be missed greatly in this household.

I'm a pretty passionate guy, but I also think you have to remember what you're passionate about sometimes. I always have to check myself when talking about real people (players, coaches, administrators, bradleyfans posters)... What is it I'm passionate about, and what is it I'm going after and is my passion conflicting with bigger things, like my sense of honor and ethics. Not talking about anyone else here, just my own approach.

Do I want SM to stay? OH YEAH.

Will I think a little less of him if he goes? Maybe, but I'll try not to because...

Do I have any right to go after him if he goes? No, not really. He's just trying to get by like most of the rest of us. Things change and people have to do things in their lives and this is just basketball for me, since I'm just a fan.

He's leaving to avoid the wrecking ball swinging through Bradley. The sports broadcasting reason is necessary to give to the NCAA.

Geez man! :( Sounds like you and a few other posters are sitting around in some dark watering hole and taking turns posting these cryptic depressing messages.......I KNOW THIS DOES A HELLUVA LOT FOR OUR PLAYERS AND RECRUITS! KEEP IT UP........ "BRADLEY FAN".

I feel ya, he will be missed a lot by me too. Funny thing is I have a friend who is a huge Illini fan who said Sam could never play in the Big 10 whenever we watch Bradley. I always argued he is a lot better than he gives him credit for and could play in the Big 10, now I might be proven right unfortunately.

He will be in high standing as a Brave always. However AW went from a good Brave to a great Brave that will forever be remembered his 5th year, I think Sammy could do the same. He could elevate to the level of great Braves, especially if he took this team somewhere next year with TB.

Leaving a school that has produced 3 Hall of Fame broadcasters...
no ...graduating from one...

btw the way -- Sam has not left and is still an active student on spring break ... hows about cutting him some slack and see what happens...
Having lost JL... the right hire would have a shot at still having a good team

Yeah, good call. Even if he gets his release (if he's actually seeking one) that does't mean he won't be back on the court for us next season. He's still with us, and still a student at the school, as I presume, are all of these guys... So let's try to keep that in mind as we post.

Regardless of why he's bolting, his legacy at BU will not shine as bright as it could. Unless he takes his next team to greatness he'll be just a cog in the wheel for one year. I'm all about free will, so as I said before I have no animosity whatsoever with his decision. What he needs to recognize is that there will be consequences good and bad from leaving. Only he knows what is right for him and what he can live with.

I think one of the consequences of him leaving is he won't go down as one of the best to ever play at BU.

My unofficial math says he has 1210 career points at BU. In 08/09 he had 454 points. If he stays and has an equally good year he would finish his career with 1664 points and surpass AW for the top ten in BU history.

I think he would also end up playing in more games than anyone in BU history. He probably has other milestones too. I do believe if he stays he could be one of the best ever.

If he has played his last game, then he was pretty good but not one of the greats. He will get his 450 at a new school and will soon be forgotten by them.

On another plane, where were these other schools when Sam graduated high school? Were they offering then? BU took a chance and gave him his chance. BU has something like $100,000 invested in the guy.

Isn't all this worth something? Even if it means not winning quite as many games next year? I don't know what is right for SM but I hope he doesn't make some knee jerk reaction and leaves just to show loyalty to his coach who is already gone.

Just saying.

Thank you tornado! :) I was hoping someone would say this. Sam simply had to ask for his release now so as to keep his options open. He's still a Brave and hopefully will lead his brothers onto the court at BU next Fall. :)

Well, Tuition, room and board, and the activity and health fee total $33,374/year. Now, accounting for the free gear Sammy has gotten through the basketball program, medical attention, etc., call it $36K or 37K per year?

at $36K for 4 years, thats $144,000. Dont want to sell yourself almost $50,000 short

Cheap investment for the tickets and gear that were sold because of him! Let's not start talking about the amount of money a program puts into a player. SM is a celebrity in P-town and I'm sure the University got their investment back and then some.
