68 Bradley- 74 TCU in game thread.

Wasn't this supposed to be the one game we're supposed to win?

I don't mind the first loss coming on the 4th game of a back-to-back plus back-to-back week. But this was supposed to be the win.

We could very well have lost every game so winning 4 was good but if Les does not change this offense and get our bigs inside where they belong we will not be finishing any higher then 6th as you cannot expect 2 players to score 40 points each and every game.

Some have mentioned how we set up offensively and I have too on other threads. What I remember from watching our other games (I didn't watch this one) we often have 5 guys out near the 3 point line, I saw WE and AT at the top of the 3 point line, one on either side of the guard so he could go either way. When shots are put up often the bigs don't have a chance to establish position under the basket and when the ball bounces off the rim in a direction they are not anticipating it often makes them look a little uncoordinated trying to get it, that's because they are running towards the basket and then trying to go another direction at the last second. If you get a chance to watch Detroit or probably most teams, don't even think about looking at Duke. They always keep 1 or 2 players near the basket on offense so they can establish a position when the ball is shot, we have a hard time getting offensive rebounds because we don't establish those positions, our bigs most often seem to be moving towards the basket when the shots go up rather than being there ahead of time.

Great insight and extremely accurate...

Thus what I said about the offense set they run needing to be scrapped...

Snell calls it a 1-4 high but the problem with that is it's more like a 5 out motion because our center isn't even anywhere near the basket most times...

We will never rebound well or have any inside game whatsoever with the center outside the paint and 4 guys retreating like the French military when a shot goes in the air

Props to BU for being +11 on the boards today, big kick in the butt for being -6 on the Turnovers LOL.

Our keys to winning this season had been negative on rebounds and positive on turnovers. I think a factor in this loss had to do with the much smaller & quicker TCU team. I think the other 4 teams had some bigger players. Again, this likely comes down to focusing more on offense in practice this upcoming week. They shot better today and played decent on D, just need to work on the O a tad bit more and we should be fine for Valley season. After all, the rest of the Valley seems to suck right now LOL.

Why is it that every year I feel like our guys get worse in the fundamental aspects of the game?

Poor free throw shooting, boxing out, missed layups, and ball handling plague this team during key stretches of games...and every piece of that means the difference between a 10 point game and a 5 point game, a 5 point game and a one possession game, and a one possession game and a loss.

Good to finally win a rebounding battle, props to AW for stepping up in that area. However, as many have stated, far too many turnovers. This team without TB doesn't have that kind of margin for error. Egolf's regression continues to be disturbing. 13 minutes, 2 rebounds, 3 turnovers, 5 fouls? It's his 4th year, he's got to be better.

Taking a step back, we had 4 games in 7 days, and won 3 of them. Would have been sweet to go 4-0 this week, but most coaches would take 3-1 weeks any day. If we keep winning 4 of every 5 we play, that's a 24 win regular season. That's dance-worthy my friends. Let's rebound (pun intended) against EIU and go into turkey day 5-1. Deal? :D

Because JL is coach. We are doing much better on D and rebounds, but if the HC is the same, we're getting worse.

Really we had 5 games in 10 days (not 9 like I said earlier), and to win 4 of those is huge. Turning around quickly like this will pay dividends in conference play as well as the tourney. I don't want to look past EIU, but if we don't win that game, I'll have something to be very upset about. I'd really love to see us only have 2 losses in non-con play and would be very happy with 3(add in at WCU) given no TB.

I agree completely with you thoughts on WE, what's going on. IMO he really hasn't shown any progression from last year. His best games we're really his 2nd year in the tourney. He never has really shown the promise he had since then. And it doesn't look to be injury related...

Because he thinks that we will wear their big men out by making them chase our big man out and that will wear their big men out so bad that they can't possibly do anything against ours. I mean it has worked so well the past 3 years why not keep doing it?........

Agreed. One thing I think may be of note is that BU did play 4 games in a 6 day stretch. Perhaps they just got a little wore out at the end and finally couldn't finish one. I'll give us one non-con bad loss, but I think we should win the rest of them besides Duke, which I hope they can somehow win.

If we only lose 3 non-conf. games, we'll have accomplished something.
A win over W. Carolina seems improbable the way we're playing now. Duke?
2 tough games at home remaining (Utah & Detroit).
I'd be happy with 7-3 before Valley season. Just being realistic.

I agree. 8-3 is my goal. we're not beating Duke and we will lose to either W. Carolina or Detroit. If we protect home court, we're at 8 wins going to the Trees. I thought the Valley would be bad this year, but not as bad as its been so far....just a total train wreck to at large hopes for almost everyone in this conference

Know I'm gettin' ahead of myself, but if we DO go 8-3, win the BB game, play decent vs. Duke (like come within 15 pts.), and finish 2nd in conf., who knows about our At-Large chances despite what everyone else does in the Valley.

In my opinion, the three things we are struggling with offensively, layups, free throws, and shooting, are things the players should be working on themselves. You don't gather your coaches and players together and start shooting free throws. You game plan for your opponent when everyone is there. Shooting is for the players to spend an hour doing after practice. Keep working on defense in practice, and hold the players accountable for getting the shooting reps in after practice.

After watching several games I think Egolf and DSE are the big keys to having a great season because I think they have not played up to their potential.
DSE appears to be trying to force the issue and needs to slow down a bit as we all know he can be a very good player for us if he can just get himself under control.
Will scores 9 points in 13 minutes but continues to make dumb fouls, the fouls are not coach Les"s fault but just maybe having Will set screens so far out is a bad decision because Will looked very good posting up down low and was able to get some easy buckets which is why he should be kept in the paint most of the time.
I would like to see our bigs play more high-low and screen down for one another and in turn our guards could screen for one another outside which would give the players more room to operate from and less congestion.

I think DSE needs to be coming off the bench at this point. Either way, he does need to slow down, he really looks like he's forcing it. I'm confident he'll work it out.

WE... I dunno. He doesn't spend a lot of time down low. Scheme or player? Prosser's down in the paint almost all the time when he's on the floor. The thing about setting screens in the high post-- every team does that very often, the difference with us is we don't have anyone rotating into the low post when they do. I'm ready for scheme adjustment in that regard...

Could be the player's execution of the scheme...
