Is anyone else watching the NBA season opener between the Boston Celtics and the Miami Heat? LeBron and many others have predicted the Heat will shatter all the records for wins, and blow through the rest of the NBA to the title.

But so far it doesn't look like that is going to happen so easily. With 3:41 to go in the first half, the LeBron-DWade-Bosh superteam has scored only 20 points (they had only 9 in the first quarter), and they are shooting just 8-33 (24%). The 3 superstars are a combined 5-24 (20.8%).
Boston is pummelling Miami and they lead 38-20.
 
I don't think it's too surprising that they are struggling vs Boston. The majority of Boston's team has been there for 3 years and has good chemistry. Boston's defense is the best in the NBA. MIA has a rough start vs Boston and then Orlando. A lot of those predictions were misguided IMO. Miami is going to be a really good team, but I don't see 70+ wins this year. The Lakers have the same team, and Boston almost won and added players.

Miami should be great for the NBA b/c they're a super-team that most people hate.

It's the first game against a veteran team that's played together for several years, I want the heat to lose, but let's not judge them based off of 1/144 of the season...

From what I saw, the Heat team's big flaw is the lack of a solid point guard who can create scoring opportunities for the other guys. LeBron played a lot of point guard, and although that allows him to have the ball in his hands to score a lot (LeBron scored 31 on 10 of 21 shots), he is not a good enough PG to help create high percentage scoring opportunities for Wade and Bosh. He also had 8 turnovers and just 3 assists. Bosh was 3-11, and Wade 4-16. For the Celtics, Rajon Rondo had 17 assists.
Also, I expect Dwyane Wade to become a bit disgruntled with this arrangement. He and Bosh will struggle to score with LeBron handling the ball so much and taking such a high percentage of the shots.
The Heat will still win the great majority of their games, but their team has enough flaws that an NBA title will not be as easy as a lot of people predicted.
 
Boston wins 88-80. LeBron had 31 but had 8 tournovers while D-Wade had 13with 6 tournovers and Bosh had just 8 points. With Wade hardly playing at all in the pre-season it might take the Heat a few games to get things going. I don't think they will threaten the Bulls wins record but it won't shock me to see them win 65.
 
As much as I'm schadenfreudy (that's for you MM) about the Heat this year, too early to call them disappointing. My own prediction is that there will be some struggles between D-Wade and LeBron, and also that LeBron wants to be loved and may not react that well to being hated. I also think that the Heat aren't ready for the fact that almost every squad they face will be out get them. I think they're a playoff team, but I'm calling 55-60 wins.
 
Watched the whole game and was laughing the whole time. Lebron thought he could go to Miami and figure everything would be fine and dandy. Well after finding his team down by 10+ points most of the game, he reverted back to ball hog Lebron and brought Miami to within 3 points with a minute left.

Miami lacked a rhythm, didn't really have a true identity. They were either fast paced, slow paced or just confused. Until the coach figures out what type of offense this team will be, they are not going to win against good teams. Here's to them losing many more LOL.

too many superstars, and what's gonna happen is what we saw last night -- Lebron got a little ticked even before the end of the 1st half and was clearly frustrated..

...and it's only a matter of time before Wade & Bosh likewise get upset that one guy is taking nearly half the shots...
neither Wade nor Bosh is gonna like looking in the paper and seeing their scoring average down around 9-10 ppg!!...so they'll start forcing shots as well....
In the end, the little things like grabbing rebounds, handing off assists, and defending someone won't get done..
Note Lebron, who averaged between 7.3 and 8.0 assists per game for the past four years had only 3 assists last night...
And even though Lebron got his scoring average he only had 4 rebs - way below his average..
and they are going to have trouble vs. teams with big centers, if their combined production out of Anthony & Ilgauskas is a mere 3 pts/10 reb/1 asst.


ESPN has hyped this stuff all summer hoping I am sure to cash in on monstrous ratings...but there are people who'll turn a game off when one team's up by 20+...so I suspect this one shocked the ESPN folks..
 
The thing about a team like Miami...or even like Boston was a couple of years ago....is that people who wouldn't tune in at all to a game, are going to be interested in what this team is doing. People love to see the frontrunners fail. A lot of people where ecstatic when the Yankees lost, people are going to want the Heat to lose. I personally can't tell you the last time I watched an NBA game, probably Hersey's last year in the league. I will be watching a little this year to see how this plays out.
 
Lebron and gang played much better tonight against Philly. They were up by double digits much of the game. DWade took the lead role tonight with 30 points, 7 boards and 4 assists. Meanwhile Bosh with only 15 points and Lebron with a "measly" 16 points, 6 boards and 7 assists....

Pretty much what was expected, however, Lebron's old team, the Cavs beat the Celtics by 7 points tonight. Only time will tell if if Miami can beat the actual good teams.

I failed to mention that Lebron had another 9 turnovers tonight with 7 assists. Add that to 8 turnovers and 3 assists last night. I think it might be time for Wade to run the point LOL.

Wade, Bosh, and Lebron all played the 4th quarter right to the end of the game, and yet in those final minutes the Sixers closed a 24 point gap all the way down to just an 8 point gap...

then with only 48 seconds to go in the game, and the Heat up 8 -- Lebron shoots just 12 seconds into the shot clock and
gives the ball right back to the Sixers almost as if Lebron wants to give them a great chance at an upset!!
Why doesn't he hold the ball and play smart...or is he simply trying to pad stats??

Likewise, after the Sixers turn it over, just 11 seconds into the next possession, Wade launces a shot as well...
this is all happening at the exact point where they should play ball control, hold the ball, and NOT shoot!

This kind of selfish, ball hogging, stat padding behavior will be this team's downfall......
 
It is a long season. But this Heat team just like the Lakers and the Bulls of the 90's will be in every game just because they have so much fire power all over the court. Even though they looked a little ragged v Boston they still were right there with a minute to play in the 4th.

Teams will have an impossible task of trying to defend this team in an spread offense. It will be impossible to defend James or Wade one on one and if you double team they have two other big time weapons that will punish you. And if they get out on a break look out because both James and Wade finish as well as anyone in basketball. And James with Ilgaskus play pick and roll and getting good spacing on the court is about as good a tandom as there is in the NBA.

Their biggest issue might be the lack of size at the 5 especially if Perkins can come back healthy or if they can not find a way to control Howard. There simply is not a team other then Boston or Orlando that can compete in a series with Miami in the East.

If Miami was in the West they would have a much more difficult time but in the East, well there just isnt teams capable of matching Miami night in night out.

They may or may not win it all this year but they will be right there come June.

Haha, do you know how many times when we had the lead late in the game DRuff would drive to the basket and throw up nothing but a prayer with 20 seconds on the shot clock? Great players aren't wired to play 'not to lose.' They play to win. I personally am a Kobe fan and want nothing more than the Heat to fail. But the criticism of this team is hilarious. They won they're second game. A win's a win. They weren't ever in real danger of losing it. Who cares if DWade and 'Bron through up some shots, you're talking about two of the top 3 players in the world, let 'em shoot.
