Oregon to hire Dana Altman

oddly, so are plenty of his own fans and reportedly the players as well who like to think they own the program..

Article from the Eugene, Oregon Register-Guard that summarizes Dana Altman's history with Arkansas, and why the Oregon fans aren't sure whether to believe this yet-

And Altman may have trouble filling his roster his first season-

And Altman's salary will be near the top of Pac-10 coaches-

I hope Barry Bear gets the job, not so we can call him Blue Barry, but because I like him and love is interviews.

I think it is a fair question... if McKenna were to take the CU job why isnt he required to sit out the two years that a player from ISU would be required to sit if he were to go to transfer to CU?

I think that's a great idea! Hate to lose him as he is establishing a good foundation but really could not see him passing the job if offerred. Not many good reasons to take the job......alumni, more money, newer arena, lived in Omaha for long time? Did not expect the Sycamores to be involved in any coaching search this quick but "As the World Turns".........?

Oregon is a sweet gig and I do not blame Dana for heading there. He better get an assistant though that understands west-coast recruiting.

Wow! This is what happens when I don't check into these boards for a day or two! :D

Well, I don't blame Altman for bolting. If Creighton was still at the top, I think he would stay.

The interesting thing though is that I thought Creighton would be back in the title hunt next year. Actually despite the off the court issues, they weren't that far out of second place this year. But I agree I think he needed a fresh start. It still will be a tough go to get Oregon back on track though.

Is that a good thing?

Good or bad, he's been around the longest, so that would indeed make him the Dean of the Valley. :)

And this would be the second time this past decade that a Bradley coach claims the Dean of the Valley title.

Altman and Oregon have reportedly agreed to the terms of the new deal. It is also reported that Altman met with the Creighton players Sunday and told them he was leaving Creighton to take over at Oregon.
Altman flew to Eugene, Oregon tonight.

There has been no official announcement yet from the University of Oregon, but university officials have confirmed there will be a news conference Monday.

Barry has as much of a chance getting that job as I do. 9 years here without an NCAA tournament probably won't work for a program that went to 5 NCAA tournaments this decade and 7 during Altman's tenure. Also, I doubt a program that paid it's coach 1.1 million would hire a guy fired from a job making $300,000 and someone who hasn't got a sniff since he was canned. The Omaha reporter should be fired for bringing up Barry's name.

I wish the best of luck for Coach Altman. IMO, he did a great job as a mid major coach and his teams were usually in contention for the MVC title.

It is being reported by an Omaha TV station that Greg McDermott has already been hired by Creighton to replace Altman.

The folks on the CU board are not nearly as happy about this as the people on the Iowa State board.
