Here are the 1st, 2nd, and Hon. mention All MVC teams again-

First team
Dinma Odiakosa, C, Illinois State, Sr.
Adam Koch, F, Northern Iowa, Sr.

Using stats from MVC games, here is a comparison of 5 different MVC guards:

Player A- 13.7 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.5 assists per game, 39% FG, 31% from three, 82% free throw %, 2.7 turnovers per game, 1.3 steals per game
Player B- 15.6 ppg, 4.0 rpg, 2.7 apg, 46% FG, 2.9 apg, 74% FT, 35% from three, 1.7 t/o per game, 1.0 steals per game.

Player D- 14.3 ppg, 2.8 rpg, 3.7 assists per game, 50.3% field goal %, 37% from three, 81% free throw %, 1.3 steals per game, 1.7 turnovers per game.
Player E- 14.7 ppg, 4.8 rpg, 2.0 apg, 43.4% from three, 93% free throw %, 2.0 turnovers per game. 1.0 steals per game.

Just looking at those stats, which ones would you pick for the All MVC 1st team?

Players A (Eldridge), B (Young), and C (Hannah) were all on the 1st team
Player D (Maniscalco) was 2nd team
Player E (Warren) was Hon. mention.

just goes to show you stats dont tell the whole story. especially when your team is a lower scoring defensive one with balance and depth.....like uni.

Maniscalco should have been 1st team, period. Stats DON'T show you everything, and Sam has every intangible you could possibly want, so the fact that his stats were 1st team worthy only furthers the point that he was snubbed.

i picked hannah and sam. seniors probably hurt him as well as position.
hannah was my first pick though in the blind test.

I had this on an earlier thread and worth repeating:

How about ISU getting 2 of the top 5 players and finishing 3rd in the valley. There goes coach of the year if you have that much talent and finish 3rd.

And some are screaming foul that TWO BU players didn't get first team and we finished 5th........

And I think Lloyd Phillips was screwed, too. He didn't even make Honorable Mention, and I think he is one of the top 3 point guards in the MVC.

Warren was honorable mention IMO, he's a great kid, but theres no doubt in my mind that a lot of his scoring came when it was easy, and that this season he played a little soft. Sam on the other hand was at his best when the game was close, and had the stats. If everything were exactly identical, and it said Creighton on our shirts, Sam is first team easy.

Sam deserved what he got.....he coulda been first team also but I think his early season struggles hurt him.

Warren had good stats but I agree with you. Honorable mention is fine but had they left him off I wouldn't have screamed foul. He INDEED is a good..heck a GREAT kid.

NOT getting awards doesn't bother me......finishing 5th does and losing in the first round (IF) will bother me more.

Go BU..beat the J's....

TWO??? I just wanted Sam. Who wanted two?

ISU does not deserve 2 on that team.

While I agreed with the statement wholeheartedly, I don't think teams gets players on All-Conf. Sam deserved that spot over 2 probably 3 players this year. People (including our own fans) can complain all they want about our record, but Sam couldn't have done anything more to help us win.

..some are screaming foul

can someone point me to even a single person who is screaming or who has screamed "foul" about the selections?
I have not heard or seen anything even close...

I don't know, but personally I'd take team 2 over team 1 in a game any day, especially with clutch players like Maniscalco and Marshall, who in reality should have both been on the 1st team....Hannah I can't really make a case for as his play slipped last half of the year and Eldridge, well, enough said....Young you could make a case for, but I think the others were more deserving, especially when you consider Marshall's comeback from a broken foot.

I am fine with the frontcourt as I can see why JE didn't make it and the other two were better anyways in Koch and Odiakosa.

Yeah, Odiakosa barely edged Jake Eastman (JE) in rebounding this year, but I can assure you that will change next season! (Just a little humor there!) :D

Too bad Odiakosa is a senior, because JE and would have some serious battles next year with JE at the 4 spot. or maybe JE is the missing 5 player we have been looking for.

1ST Off, I said earlier that I didn't think Hannah and Young should be there, but after seeing the numbers, they are pretty solid.

Maniscalco is right there with them, but not overwhelmingly better, so while I wouldn't trade Sammy for either, I can accept Hannah and Young on the 1st team.

Warren, however, he may have the best numbers of any of them, and didn't even make the 2nd team, his #'s are better than Eldrige's #'s. It's interesting to see what the perceptions of other coaches are about a player's talents.

Based on the numbers alone, I think pretty much any combination of everyone except Eldridge would be acceptable.

Like I said, here's mine:

Koch
Odiakosa
Young
Marshall
Maniscalco

I really feel stronger for Harry Marshall than anything as he earned 1st team...starts out as a walk-on, transforms himself into one of the best guards in the league, and comes all the way back from injury to lead his team in his final home game out of the play-in round with a buzzer beating 3 in OT...
