John Wilkins

Sounds more promising for Wilkins ending up at BU. I guess the question is whether he'll be TB's backup or WE's backup. We couldn't possibly play them all at the same time, we would be too big. ;)

The coach is wrong about him having four years isn't he? By the way I am still plenty worried.

I thought someone said even if he never plays there he still has only 3 years left to finish his 5 year period of eligibility anyway, because his time has already started. I'm not sure how it works though.

Sounds like good news to me, and yes since his 5 year clock started spring semester last year he would only be eligible for 3.5 years at BU starting next year unless there is some waiver that could get approved by the NCAA.

You guys have nothing to worry about. His coach is telling everyone he is signed with Bradley.

I laughed when I read that, keep it up Coach!

Probably a stupid question, but if he had 3.5 years left what will happen with the .5 years left at the end? It would seem weird to have him play the first half of a year and then be done wouldn't it?? Getting way to far ahead I know, but I didn't understand how it would work.

I'd feel much better if JW returned the phone call to Dave Reynolds or came to a BU game this season still showing interest!

???We wouldn??™t waste a year of eligibility for the kid. If he keeps going to school, which he??™s shown that he will, he??™ll be ready to graduate (in May) and go (to a four-year college) for four years. So it might turn out to be in his best interests. He??™d have to have a major screwup to not do it.???

Not sure if that means 4 years of school or eligibility. If he does only have 3.5 years of eligibility he would most likely sit out until the end of the fall semester next year, then serve his 5 game suspension and be eligible 1st or 2nd week of January and a couple games into conference play.

I also think he has been through enough to not majorly screw up in his classes when he's this close to end the whole mess.

???If we had him, we might be be the No. 1 (NJCAA) team in the country,??? Carroll said. ???At this level, he??™d be worth 17-18 points, 10 rebounds and three blocks a night.???

Wow. If he posted those numbers he would be one of the top JUCO transfers in the country. I'm curious what position Carroll would have him playing and how much he weighs now. Maybe the time off gave him time for his frame to fill out.

I don't know, but if the kid is as good as we think he is - JL, with his many good pro scouting contacts will have him in the pros in 2-3 years :)

Wilkins actually making on campus would make me really happy.. and if hes that good maybe we can actually play him and egolf at the same time and actually play big since we've seen how big ISU and UNI play

None of us here know enough about John's case to make this determination. It is possible for John to have avoided his NCAA "clock" starting last January when he enrolled. It's called "gray-shirting", and football recruits do it frequently (to bulk up and get stronger to play at the college level, or to improve their academics). Coach Cornelius of Yuba explained it on the board a couple years ago, and he sometimes employs it with recruits at Yuba College.
They enroll, are not on the official roster, they take a limited number of credit-hours to remain part-time students, and they take no scholarship money their first semester (or it can be up to a full year). That way their "clock" doesn't start until they actually begin playing or receiving a scholarship at the start of the next season, or when they become full-time students (12 hours per semester).
John's coach said he would retain 4 years of college eligibility, and it's possible he could be correct.

Here is a football definition, but it can apply to basketball, as well.-

If that is the case, how could he graduate in a year and a half from a Junior College? I just think back on how many credits I had to take each semester to stay on pace and it makes me wonder if he could finish his associate's degree in 1.5 years while staying a part time student.

I don't know.
Coach Carroll said he'd have 4 years of eligibility. I would think his coach would know more about this?
