BU wins @ Siu 57-55

Then I guess I ask for an honest assessment....was this one of the worst crews ever - missing at least 1/2 of the calls they made!!!

Soo true

Officiating at SIU has been pathetic, or should I say gutless, for some time now, as SIU teams play aggressive in your face defense and get away with murder at home. The clutching, hacking, bumping, hand checking, holding goes unnoticed while officials call touch fouls on opponents

The calls, or non calls, you referenced were more evidence of the same...

Better officials were up in Champaign officiating the Illini game.

DSE continues to be a cog for the team. I think he was out on the court at the end of the game. Les has confidence in this kid, as he should.
Not much fell for BU from the outside, but DSE had 2 big 3's when SIU was cutting into the lead. How good is he going to be in 2 years...if healthy?

WHAT? One of the few this year? Everytime we've needed clutch FT's whos been there? Most of the clutch 3's we've had are Sam.

Sam's last 6 games: 21, 13, 15, 12, 21, 20.

Yeah, he rarely shows his ability...

I did not say he rarely shows his ability. You brought up that his play last night was a game changer. I agreed with that assessment, and said that he has shown THAT ability, to be a game changer, a few times this year. I also ended it by saying I hope that this continues. Just because you score points does not make you a game changer. It was the little things, like hustle, ball control, passing and D that SM showed last night that really made the difference.

One more thought on the Taylor Brown technical early in the game...
I watched again in slo-mo......
--and first, I don't think TB fouled anyone - it looked to me like a pretty fair scramble, even up once the ball squirted towards the end line
--second, TB was fouled a second earlier as he went for the rebound, and the photo in the PJS proves it (see below)
--third -- even if the ref did think TB fouled the Saluki player, the whistle didn't happen until after Taylor made the proper, instinctive reaction to throw the ball at the other guy's feet to save from going out of bounds with it.
--that quick act, aimed right at the SIU guy caused the ref to instantly conclude Taylor was acting out of anger and throwing the ball flagrantly..
I really think the ref totally blew it, and didn't have a clue what was happening..concluding a technical instead of simply a no-call...
--regardless, I still feel it was at least a 5-6 pt. turnaround...
should have been our ball and a foul on SIU.

My feelings about the staff and direction of the program are still the same. A couple of wins getting us to .500 doesn't change that. They don't change the body of work to this point. Get me a top 3 finish and into the NCAA's this year and I'll change my tune. Doesn't mean I won't still enjoy the wins! Tonight was fun!

Exactly.......

BTW - could the booing from the fans have rattled the Salukis just enough that just maybe it affected one play slightly, and in the end we win by a hair...
so this loss is on the fans....8)

You maybe right, but JL was right there I believe, as it happen in the corner at the end of our bench. Jimmy did not then contest it as if it was the wrong call and he pulled TB for the remainer of the half! Maybe Jimmy said something to Taylor and he felt Taylor did not get the message so he sat him! Like I said you could be right for all I know because watching it on TV was not a good view of what happen:!: Any way he sat and had a good view of the game for rest of the half:roll:

Maybe, Maybe not.. after the game an SIU assistant coach said the booing motivated their players.

Were they sitting down while booing? If so, it definitely is on them.

I have 4 questions...

--is there anyone north of Carbondale who really believes Carlton Fay was even touched let alone fouled on that 3-pt shot when he was awarded 3 FT's?

--when TB chased down that long rebound in the 2nd half and was clobbered but called for traveling, is there anyone who actually agrees with that call?
It was a loose ball, nobody had control and it cannot be traveling, and should have called a foul on Freeman.

--did Taylor Brown say something to get the "T" of did he just get slapped with the technical because he attempted to throw the ball off the opponent to save it inbounds? I thought that's all he was doing and didn't necessarily deserve a "T".

--check the picture on the front page of the PJS sports section....
you can also access the picture here on this page, it is the one under the larger picture in the little area "More related photos"....showing Taylor Brown going for a basket...with two different Salukis hammering his arms and BOTH literally have their hands wrapped fully around Taylor's arm and clearly fouling him...yet nothing was called...

As an SIU fan I can tell you that the officiating was horrible. Fortunately it wasn't one sided. The refs sucked no matter who had the ball, so don't read too much into missed calls. And as far as Brown's T, he got it for what he said to the ref.
