BU 74- Idaho St. 69

Attendance 9019- not bad for an early season, Sunday game. The crowd was a little quiet, but Idaho State had something to do with that.

Congratulations to DD, AW, DSE, and SM on great games.

Terrible break for Dodie. Bradley is snakebittn with injuries.

I sat next to a couple coaches from Southeastern Community College of Iowa. They are still optimistic JW will still play this season.

After watching the first 3 games ( Lewis exb. included)
My starting lineup based on those games:
DSE
Warren
Roberts
Brown
Egolf
Maniscalco is deserving but he can be a huge contributor off the bench.
I really like my lineup because it gives us better size which we need if we expect to be able to hold our own on the boards.
Milo"s has a ways to go , McCain has struggled both offensively and defensively ( he has had to guard 2 really good players and even when he was on them they still shot over him )
Sam Singh and AT need to contribute more on the boards and also need to be bigger threats to score.
Dodie really stepped up his game tonight and I feel for him as he is now out for the season.
We sure don"t have any luck when it comes to major injuries, cannot afford to have anymore as we are down to 10 players.

I agree with most of what you say, but with the minutes SamM is getting 'coming off the bench' doesn't really make sense, at least when I consider starting lineups I look at the players who are going to get the most time. Also I LOVE DSE so far, more so than McCain, and even Roberts, but I don't know if I'd want him running the offense. I say Start SM, AW, CR, TB, WE, with DSE the first off the bench for guards, and AT the first off the bench for 4/5.

Man i'm forgetful tonight LOL, does anyone know what section those dang kids sit in that scream while were shooting the FT's? I heard them tonight and heard them during the radio broadcast of the Lewis home game. It sounded like they were in the lower bowl in the mid section behind our bench. I'm not sure about the players, but they were seriously a distraction.

Jason

For this game there was some kids in the Upper Bowl in section 11. They were definitely loud and distracted me from the game.

As far as the Lewis game goes, I didn't notice any kids but the loud whistling you heard over the radio was probably from the fan in the Lewis section behind their bench who was blowing a high pitched whistle.

surprise surprise
haha

in all seriousness though. I don't feel a team leader should be playing off the bench. Sam would be a better choice from an experience perspective.

I do like the idea of giving DSE some minutes like EM got last year (about that many, not as many starts...for previous reasons).

The only problem is where does that leave EM.....if you have SM, AW, and DSE getting bulk guard minutes...what does that leave him?
hopefully enough for him to develop into a better player...but not enough to be an offensive/defensive issue

Not sure how Jim expects us to outrebound anyone by playing 4 guys 6'4" and under most of the time. Taylor Brown isn't Dennis Rodman, and he isn't the 'cure all' to our rebounding woes. He will help some, but if they think he is just magically going to fix an average of -11 on the boards, they're sorely mistaken.

Great game DSE. You might be the blessing this team's been missing for a long time.

I'm so disgusted right now about Dodie I can barely talk, so I am just going to stop right now before I say something I regret.

The game was just ok to me....

Their guards were good and seemed like they could shoot over ours whenever they wanted. Finally late in the first half AW did the same thing..

I hope TB does what everyone says or rebounding is going to be huge problem all year. I hate to hang my hat on the fact we have one rebounder with TB

There were stretches where neither team played very good defense either.

DSE played great and seems to be very deceptive on his way to the basket....he's not cat quick but has some long strides on the way to the rim and stays in the air forever....

SM hit some huge shots late....that's what you need from your leader

He's powerfully quick, C Roberts should learn to attack the bucket the way DSE does. If C Rob gets a step on his man, he should be thinking Elevate and Rip the rim down. I don't understand why he starts double pumping and laying the ball up when he's got explosive hops like he does.

Oh I forgot, SOLVE THE DANG MOVING SCREEN VIOLATIONS!!!! Half of our turnovers were moving screens.

Jason
Jason, I agree the moving screen issue needs to be fixed. I'm SOOOOOOOO tired of that call on us. They say "how you practice is how you play." I'll bet we set those screens the same way in practice to. It needs fixed and fixed a.s.a.p.

Said what I wanted to say better than I'd say it.

I think they were 11-22 from 3 pt range tonight! :)

not sure why Eddren's 0-2 wasn't factored in, as I am pretty sure both came fron outside the arcs..but they were in the book as 2-pointers.
One other missed call...on that save inbounds play Dyricus looked OOB with a whole foot.. ;)

I thought they looked like threes, but the refs ruled 2-pointers on both. He must have had a toe on the line.

Well, we get Brown back but now lose a great outside shooter for the season. Brown will solve most of our inside D and rebounding issues, now lets hope that DSE or someone steps up with the lost outside shooting.

Singh & Egolf were just killed on the boards tonight, this would of been an easy 15 to 20 point win had Brown been in there and racked up his 8-12 boards a game. Probably would of solved the layup drill that Idaho State was running on us all game long. Probably 80% of their points were within 4 to 5 feet of the hoop & layups.

Still gotta work on the FT's, missed another 8 tonight out of 25 attempts.

Alright, everyone, lets not go overboard with this close loss, they have a whole week to work DSE into a main role and Brown comes back in for the boards & post D. Lets see how they do against Wofford, who gave Pitt a close game.

Jason

I agree with your post about Singh and Egolf...but, lets not forget that Egolf has never flashed any inside strength. Before the injury WE didn't show any signs of being a rebounder. He's built and wired to play a small forward's game. He's got underrated athleticism and movement skills, but he's not a banger. So, looking for significant rebounding out of WE is probably unrealistic.

A couple of points here...

In some instances, this year's team reminds me of the 07-08 NIT team in that we were passing the ball around (not as good as that team yet) and shooting the three.... need more inside presence as stated on other posts...

AT needs to keep his arms up on defense especially when the other team is about to shoot.

with TB back, I would like to see the following lineup on the floor... just to see us play big!
SM
AW
TB
WE
AT
