I absolutely do not agree with the NJCAA ruling, but have to believe this is probably the best scenario for getting Wilkins to still come play at Bradley. Otherwise, he probably would've ended up on some list of top juco players in the country and had even more schools recruiting him and more pressure to change his mind. I just feel terrible for him and his family for being put through all this nonsense. Hopefully, he will get through these trying times and be ready to play for BU one year from now.

I present the proof that NJCAA as well as NCAA are crooked..
This Ohio State recruit, Nikola Kechman, spent a year at junior college (Eastern Arizona) even though he had played professionally in Europe, and when he got to Ohio State, he had to sit out 12 games for his professional involvement..
And yes -- the kid's professional connections were so blatant that they even penalized a kid going to Ohio State!
BUT-- what was his penalty at Eastern Arizona?? Nothing of course..

The NCAA might change this rule so kids aren't docked games, since they know this really doesn't constitute being a pro.
But you can guarantee they'll still enforce it against mid-majors...

as for the NCAA...remember a kid named Derrick Caracter??
He was proven to have accepted over $2100 in cash and extra benefits from a "friend" who paid the kid's way to Louisville...and his school - Louisville suspended the kid for 3 games, but what was his NCAA penalty for accepting payment & extra benefits, and therefore being a professional?
Well...he never did get any penalty at all from NCAA..none...never!

Playing ball, practicing, traveling, etc. makes it very hard to do well in the classroom. He can now focus on finishing his degree asap and move on to BU next fall. I'm not saying I agree with the NJCAA, but I am trying to look at the positive and I hope John does too.
I've never been a conspiracy type, but this really smells of one if ever one did. But, it may backfire because he won't be playing in front on BCS scouts looking to steal him. This could work to BU's advantage.
John, if you read these things, I wish you well and welcome you to BU as a player/athlete and member of a great family here at Bradley. Sign your letter next week, hold your head up high, study hard the rest of this school year and graduate with flying colors, and get ready to show everyone how great of a player you are when you put on the BU uniform. Putting on the uniform will also show that you are a person of high character by sticking with BU through these hard times. Best of Luck, and I am sorry that our education system let you down.
