Some news about DePaul, who Bradley will play in a closed scrimmage October 31st in Alumni Gymnasium in Chicago.-

DePaul adds 4 walkons to their roster-

Note that one of DePaul's incoming recruits, freshman Tony Freeland, a 6'6" forward from Los Angeles, hs not been cleared by the NCAA and will not be enrolling this fall. They added 4 walkons, three will be freshmen who aren't likely to play for them this season. One is a transfer from SEMO, Jimmy Drew, who will have 1 year of eligibility left, but who will have to sit out this year per transfer rules. Drew, who missed last season for SEMO with a foot injury, was kicked off the team after last season for a DUI incident.

Here is DePaul's roster-

The lost their leading scorer from last season, Dar Tucker, who chose to enter the NBA draft (he was not drafted) and did not return to DePaul. Also, 2 other starters graduated- Matija Poscic and Jabari Currie.
So they will return 2 starters, guard Will Walker (14.6 ppg), and forward Mac Koshwal (12.2 ppg and 9.6 rpg).

Others who may be in the mix for a starting position and playing time are:
Jeremiah Kelly- a sophomore from boys to Men Academy who averaged 4.3 ppg in 23.6 minutes per game.
Devin Hill- a 6'9" forward and a former Bradley recruit who will also be a sophomore. He averaged 3.1 ppg and 3.2 rpg in 17.5 mpg.
Mike Bizoukas- a 6'1" guard who renigged on his commitment to Northern Iowa and switched to dePaul. He is a sophomore who didn't play much last year (2.0 ppg in 15 mpg). He will likely be a reserve again this season.
Mike Stovall- a 6'5" forward, junior college transfer who will add some scoring. He is originally from Chicago Marshall HS. With Tony Freeland not qualifying, Stovall is the only new scholarship player for DePaul this fall.
Mario Stula- a 6'7" junior wing player from Croatia, who has the reputation as a good shooter, but who only averaged 1.7 ppg last season in 9.8 mpg, and shot just 25.9% from the field and 27% from three.
Eric Wallace- a 6'6", 215 lb. forward who transferred from Ohio State and sat out last season at DePaul.

A couple of other players, 6'11" Krys Faber, and 7'2"Kene Obi seem more like long-term projects and are not likely to contribute a lot this season.

It could be a long season for DePaul. They will likely be picked to finish 16th in the 16-team Big East. Last season they finished dead last at 0-18 in the league.

Here is a list of all the closed scrimmages planned by Division I schools.
http://community.foxsports.com/goodmanonfox/blog/2009/10/28/secret_scrimmage_list_revealed

Note he lists the Saturday, Oct. 31 scrimmage between DePaul and Bradley as being at Bradley.
Other sites also report the game is at Bradley-
http://mslacat.wordpress.com/2009/10/28/secret-scrimmages/

Dave Reynolds reported that this scrimmage will be at DePaul-
http://www2.pjstar.com/index.php/reynolds/article/bu_to_play_closed_scrimmage_at_depaul/

But here is a report from the Wichita State beat writer that also says the game is at Bradley (see the bottom paragraph)-
http://www.kansas.com/sports/shockers/story/1030210.htmlhttp://www.americanchronicle.com/articles/yb/137014070

But even the DePaul website says it is at DePaul-

Is anyone going up to DePaul to watch the BU-DePaul scrimmage Saturday?
Just kidding!:D Though fans will be interested to hear about the scrimmage, it is closed to the public, and only coaches and personnel necessary to play the game are allowed to attend. Recruits can also be invited and attend. But details about the actual game cannot be reported.

The actual time of the game has not been announced, but we have heard it is in the afternoon, though I don't know that for sure. The NCAA requires that non-necessary personnel be locked out of these closed scrimmages, and that no reporting be allowed of the game's statistics. But there seems to be a higher level of secrecy involved with this scrimmage than the NCAA even requires. Nobody, including the official DePaul website, has even reported details such as the time and location of the game.
The only official mention of this scrimmage comes from this brief statement in a release by DePaul.-

In addition to the exhibition game, DePaul will hold a scrimmage with Bradley on Saturday, Oct. 31. The practice scrimmage is closed between DePaul and Bradley under NCAA bylaws that also prohibit any statistical reporting of the event.

In fact, the only other report anywhere about this scrimmage and the only mention of the location of this game came from this brief September 4th blog entry by Dave Reynolds-
http://www2.pjstar.com/index.php/reynolds/article/bu_to_play_closed_scrimmage_at_depaul/

And there even appears to be confusion about where the game will be played. This article by the beat writer for Wichita State says the game is at Bradley (see last paragraph)-
http://www.kansas.com/sports/shockers/story/1030210.html

and this national college basketball writer posted the same information in his article on FoxSports.com-

Not too likely. :D

In accordance with NCAA rules, the doors will be locked, and all unnecessary personnel will be banned from the gym.

This brings back some good memories. Went down to see the Illinois vs Bradley game with my Illini friend, we left early so he could show me some of the places he and his wife hung out when they were there. He wanted to show me the Assembly Hall first, I had never seen it. Parked right by the front doors, first door locked, next door locked....except the last door on the left was open. We walked in and there were a couple guys but we just acted like we belonged there and when we got to one of the entry ways to the court I looked down there and saw a bunch of red on the floor, could this be my Braves. We walked all the way down and sat in maybe the 6th or 8th row and watched the Braves go through a light pregame workout and walking through plays. DV turned and looked at us a couple times like we were spies and I thought we might get kicked out, good thing I had some red on. Unfortunately we lost the game that night, I hope we get a chance to play them this year.

As a player or coach being interviewed or asked about this scrimmage after the fact, how are they not tempted to let on something about the results? How do you keep your players from eluding to performance results or otherwise? What are the rules on this? I would think that the "winning" coach would be so tempted to give some type of hint or comment.

Has this been an issue in years past with anyone?
