Top Ten Things About this Season

tornado

New member
with apologies to David Letterman, I am going to do a top ten...

Here are the top ten things I am looking forward to this season........

10- Go RP, you've earned a little PT, make the best of it.

9- can't wait to see how improved Eddren is and how well he runs the offense

8- I want to see the dunks and athleticism from Chris Robetrs, but winning is the important thing

7- I love to watch Dodie play and always have that smile

6- give Sam Singh his final victory-tour like ovations for overcoming all his injuries and yet still contributing

5- see if AT has made enough strides to get more playing time, and see how Coach uses the big men

4- I am interested to get a look at the new freshmen and how they work into the rotation. The presence of a couple popular local guys can't hurt the home attendance either, Milos sounds like he's got a certain kind of talent we haven't seen since JJ and Steve Kuberski - fine shooting big man, and Charonn & Jake will surely get a little PT.

3- Taylor Brown, can't wait to see how much he's improved...it was no fluke that he scored and rebounded so well in the preseason tour.

2- whether Sam Maniscalco takes the next quantum leap as a complete player.
Sam boosted his minutes, his scoring, his rebounding, and his FT shooting between his frosh & soph years. If he steps it up again, will he get the kind of hype reserved generally only for players who call themselves "King"?

1- Andrew Warren returning - I think Drew is gonna have the pundits wondering how did they miss this so badly? Warren scored 435 points his sophomore year...which puts him among the top 15 ever at BU in sophomore scoring and THE 2nd BEST in the past 15 seasons - just slightly behind Cellus! Even Anthony Parker (426 points as a soph) is behind AW on this list.
He also averaged 1.43 points for each shot taken, one of the best figures in the Valley in the past several seasons.
If there are people who turn out to be surprised by this guy, then they haven't been watching...

Nice Andrew Warren piece

1- Andrew Warren - puts him among the top 15 ever at BU in sophomore scoring ...

Here is yet another comparison....just facts...you decide...

Arguably the best SG in the MVC in the past decade is Kyle Korver, who is enjoying a fine NBA career that's now into its 7th season...

Here is a stat by stat comparison between the freshman and sophomore seasons of Korver & Warren...

Korver
Fr- 33 games, 47.5 FG%, 43.4 3-pt%, 8.8 ppg, 3.1 rpg
So-32 games, 47.0 FG%, 45.2 3-pt%, 14.6 ppg, 5.8 rpg

Warren
Fr-34 games, 46.3 FG%, 45.7 3-pt%, 4.1 ppg, 1.6 rpg
So-33 games, 43.0 FG%, 40.6 3-pt%, 13.2 ppg, 3.6 rpg

I can't help chuckling when you post stuff like this T. I just know there are a few people out there that get ticked off and worked up over these kinda posts. LOL!

One additional note- Korver had 4 years with the 3-point line at 19'9", while Warren will only have played 1 season (his freshman season) with the shorter 3-point distance. The line was moved back to 20'9" before the 2007-2008 season.

If AW shows up to assert his will on the game, watch out! The only aspect of his game that was lacking IMO was that he disappeared at times. That just could have been that he was young and he had guys like JC and Ruf to defer to. AW will be the go-to guy on this team. He has a complete game which we have not seen at BU since AP.

Wrong.

Warren had TWO seasons with the line at 19'9. His freshmen and sophomore seasons. The line was moved back before the '08-'09 season which Warren missed and not the '07-'08 season as you claim.

Taking nothing away from Warren though. He's on his way to a respectable career provided he's over the injuries that have hampered him for so long.

Oops, that's right, but my point remains the same, AW had 2 seasons with the shorter 3-point line. He'll have 2 seasons at the longer distance, unlike earlier players like Korver who had an advantage of 4 years with a shorter line.

If anyone doesn't think it makes a big difference, check out all the NBA records for three point percentages, and most 3-point shots. Almost every record was set in the years when they shortened the 3-point line.

Here are the NBA records set during brief time the NBA experimented with a shorter 3-point line. For most of it's time in the rules, the 3-point line remained at 23'9". But for 3 seasons, 1994-95 through 1996-97 it was shortened to 22'. It was intended to generate more scoring, but it had the opposite effect. Because it was easier to make the shorter 3-pointer, far more players tried to become 3-point shooters, and many more were attempted. However, the percentage of successful 3-pointers dropped and scoring dropped off significantly because so many players were taking the shot who were not good shooters. It was changed back to 23'9" permanently, prior to the 1996 -97 season
Interestingly, some people give credit to this temporary shortening of the 3-point line for the Bulls' 72-win season. I don't buy it, because although it allowed Jordan and Pippen to become more proficient at the 3-point shot, it had the same effect for every team. So it wouldn't have benefitted just the Bulls. I think that team would likely have won 72 games regardless.

Many of the NBA's 3-point shooting records were set those 3 years (1994-1995, 1995-1996, and 1996-1997) with the shorter line, and now some may never be broken.

I like the list.

I'm really looking foward to seeing the impovements of Chris Roberts and Taylor Brown. I think it's possible for Roberts to become a complete player. If he can put an outside shooting game with his defense and rebounding, he'll be on the floor quite a bit.

I like most of that top 10 except the part about Milos compared to JJ. I hope his offense is nothing like JJ, as JJ was one of the worst offensive players on the squad, although played the best defense.

10. We finally finish above 4th in the Valley for the first time in the last 7 years.
9. We win the Valley tourney for the 1st time in 7 years
8. We aren't in any tourneys named CBI, CTI or EIEIO
7. That we don't have to say.."well if _____ wasn't hurt we woulda beat you"
6. That 10,000 screaming fans in red doesn't actually mean 8500 sitting on their hands
5. Warm weather in Vegas...
4. We get to finals in Vegas
3. NO 2:30 Friday game in St Louis!!!!!
2. Beat ISU at home...
1. Beat ISU away...

I think you have your JJ's mixed up. I'm pretty sure T is talking about JJ Anderson, and you're thinkin JJ Tauai. Because calling Bradley's career points leader the worst offensive player on the squad seems a little bogus. ;)

Yeah.....I was thinking Anderson all the way, given the context of T's post.

Geez! I forgot Warren shot the 3 so well :o

If he ONLY duplicates his sophomore numbers (and shows more consistency from game to game) I am convinced that this will be a very special year.

JJ was a great player who helped turn the BU program around and a great guy, but I think Hersey is Bradley's career points leader.

That's only because the Hawk got to play in the Civic Center under different smoking laws in public places - there was less smoke after intermission which helped players to continue to get enough oxygen to breathe while competing at their best/top level which allowed him to score more often.

;)

:-P

Maybe so, but to use a word that was used quite a bit on another thread, it's a fact.

IMO CR just needs to develop a pull up mid-range jumper, an improved handle and he'll be scary good with his hops. The 3 should be used as a weapon for him but I feel much better about his game the closer he gets to the rim! KABOOM!
