Physicality, role playing keys for BU-
http://www.pjstar.com/sports/x41916202/Physicality-role-playing-keys-for-BU

There is an explanation in there of why the PJ Star writers may not have had any articles yesterday from Media Day.
I know, that’s expected on Media Day, an annual affair conducted at schools throughout the country, usually before or during the first week of practice. So happy talk was certainly expected in duplicate this week at Bradley, where players’ class schedules led sports information director Bobby Parker to spread athletes and interviews over two afternoons.

That's no excuse! They should be the next day, so when people get up at 4:30 to get the paper- those stories are there!

Or at least they can let us know ahead of time so our day isn't ruined... lol

I wonder if it has something to do with PJ Star staff being chopped down to nothing? And they wonder why people stopped buying their paper.

Murph, many people stop buying the paper because they access the information for free on the Internet. Revenues being reduced, expenses must be cut, leading to reduced staffing. Which leads to reduced coverage.

I can tell you are very intelligent, so please don't take this as condescending. I know you know this.

But it saddens me to see the death of the dailys, and I really wonder where our credible, in-depth, local news will come from after they are extinct.

Hey-- I am very happy with this column....this is great coverage for BU
and it even sounds like Kirk has seen something that makes him a little bit of a believer that BU will surprise people this year...

"the Braves well could elevate from overlooked mid-packers to contenders."

"There is no shortage of leadership on this team."

"And McCain ... let??™s just say he??™s going to shock a lot of people with how well he runs the point this season."

"So the talk on the Hilltop right now is all good."

someone check his coffee cup and see if it's been spiked with Koolaid!

My Mon. & Tues. PJS isn't large enough to wrap the garbage in. They should be ashamed of their early- in- the- week versions! Oh well--- I also have the Observer which ain't bad after looking at the super downsized PJS.

I'm not suprised at Wessler's optimism this year:

He recognized last year as a rebuilding year (meaning it should be all up from there) with the returning, more experienced, guard talent.
I think the loss of TW is the biggest reason others downgrade BU, but KW has been very public about liking Brown as a potential special player.

Last year wasn't a rebuilding year. Had Warren and Egolf not suffered their injuries we could have very well be playing for a title against ISU on Sunday in St. Louis. That's why I feel very good about this group IF HEALTHY!

I agree. It may be a bit of wishful thinking, but I think it is realistic to think that with a healthy Warren and Egolf, Bradley would have beaten UNI in both games last season. BU lead both games until late, then couldn't hit shots or rebound to prevent UNI from coming back with 3-pointers and nailing down both wins. If BU had won just those 2 additional games, they would have finished in a tie with UNI at 12-6. I think that alone might have been good enough for an NCAA bid, or at least an NIT bid. But I also think Bradley could have won a number of other games with a fully healthy team, and could have taken the MVC championship.

I don't know if that would've been good enough. Technically if that happened wouldn't that mean Creighton would've won last year? Then since creighton didn't get in with a tie of first place I would assume only the MVC tournament winner is going to get in pretty consistently now, unless we have a very upswing type of year where all MVC teams beat their BCS opponents in a season.

I read it and not bad! I believe the PJS is trying to win over the BU fanatics. DR has always been fair and KW usually loves to ruffle some feathers. This will be nice if KW continues to bring in what he has observed then his usual pontification like statements. If he observes something he does not like that is fine, I just do not want to hear how we should handle something without really looking into the facts first and relating it to similar circumstance. So, just maybe the PJS is turning over a new leaf!

MM you may have to start opening up PJS.com for some good old fashion columns.:D

Oh no... I'm done. I'll read Dave... and even then, I can't stand clicking on PJStar's links. But Wessler - no way. I'm done with him and I'm not ever coming back. Kiss it!

T: As usual, you are correct. Sunday is better than Mon./Tues./Wed. BUT, the ads still outweigh the news on Sunday.

Good thing now days that we have/use toilet paper:eek:

You should see the Bloomington Pantagraph. Today's obituaries are in the Sports section. I know a lot of folks over this way who have started buying the PJS because of shrinking news/sports coverage in the Pantagraph. Be grateful for what you have ... left.

It's certainly true that there have been significant cut backs, columnists eliminated as well as (I have noticed) categories that used to appear in the boxscore area of the paper that are no longer there. But on the other hand the Monday edition has always been really thin--or if not always at least since the early 80's. As a former JS paper carrier I have fond memories of those Mondays.
