Shoe money

I can hardly blame the greedy shoe companies...
as long as there are greedy AAU coaches, greedy parents, and greedy kids who will do whatever they need to do to get the shoe money and favors from Nike.

Here's more breaking shoe-controversy...

Michael Jordan's son, Marcus, who is now at University of Central Florida,
says he will ONLY wear Nike's and says he was given assurance when he verballed and signed his LOI that he'd be allowed to wear Nike's.

BUT the school has a solid contract with adidas, and the terms of the contract state otherwise:
"Adidas requires all coaches and athletes to use the company??™s shoes,
apparel, and game equipment. Now, there seems to be a conflict between
the UCF and Adidas because of Marcus Jordan??™s request."

so is Michael Jordan more powerful than adidas?? I guess we'll see who caves...

I'm getting a little tired of the spoiled Jordan kids. Who cares who their dad is? IMO Illinois and Central Florida should tell them to hit the road.

I think you're being bitter for not a lot of reason. Jeff Jordan was a solid contributor for Illinois, and they are a better team with him. And have you seen Marcus play? I mean he's no... well, his dad... But the kid is good, no denying it. He's got high-major talent.

I saw Marcus at the IHSA championship earlier this year and I was not that impressed. He's a mid-major player.imho

The reason Marcus Jordan had few offers is that he's a "tweener". He's talented, and excelled in high school, but he has a forward-type body, but was only 6'2" tall. Sergio McClain was a similar player, but at least he was 6'4"+, and was a better rebounder and had a better jump shot. If Marcus Jordan plays against other D1 guards, they will have a significant quickness advantage, and if he plays a forward, he'll be at a severe height disadvantage. I will be interested to see how he does. I will be surprised if he has a better career than Jeff.

Regardless on how they turn out with their playing career, it has to be very tough to play basketball when their father is one of the all-time greats of the game.

Jeff J might have been a solid contributor, but he left the coaches hanging. I've never seen Marcus J play. He might be the second coming, but he shouldn't worry about what shoes he's going wear. Everybody will know who his dad is. If that's being bitter, so be it.

He is only being loyal, so I cannot knock him for that! Nike after all has paid for his nice life style.

Central Florida already has a contract with another company. Why should they change because 1 kid wants to wear another shoe. IMO, MJ should tell him to just play ball.

and why would MJ do that? Nike has fed him and his family pretty well IMO. Maybe he needs to tell his kid to play elsewhere. What's wrong with a bit of loyalty.

He would have been fed good even without Nike. A contract is a contract. MJ played under an NBA-Players assn contract didn't he? Go elsewhere because of a shoe?

MJ is so closely associated with Nike that I'd aliken it to being a member of the Ford family (cars) and being asked to drive a Toyota. Or if Steve Jobs' kids wanted a PC. I kind of get it.

He still made much more under Nike then what the Bulls payed him and is still making money from them! LOYALTY sometimes is spelled with $$$$$$$$$$. Sorry I'm just not going to bash the guy. The school though needs to show their loyalty now and tell him to take a hike! It will be interesting to see who blinks first. The corporate "Cuban missile crisis."

I think this situation is a riot. Why doesn't Daddy buy out the contract then put NIke clothes and shoes in there. Then everyone is happy. I wouldn't crash if I was the school. Just make MJ buy the whole thing and make it go away.
