Anyone getting nervous???

It seems everyone is getting commitments or verbals but us. Is it time to start worrying??
I would have thought we would be filling our remaining openings by now. All the names we've heard seem to be going elsewhere. Hope Jim has some kids we've not heard about or this could be a slim signing period. The Valley teams seem to doing quite well. Go Braves

It has been a frustrating few weeks for the coaches as several recruits they had spent a lot of time and effort recruiting have verballed elsewhere.
But rest assured that they still have several exceptionally talented recruits they are following.

Honestly if the talent that is supposed to be here over the next year to 2 years in Wilkins and Harris pan out, arrive and are as solid as advertised I am not overly worried about the recruiting.

As of right now Im much more worried about getting another game scheduled.

BTW I spoke to a guy very close to Wilkins and he said and I quote "Wilkins is the real deal" Knowing the guy and his experience and reputation I could not be more excited about Wilkins. I just want him wrapped up and signed.

I think we would all like him "wrapped up and signed" I just don't have a good feeling about it

When can JW sign his LOI?

I don't know if he can sign this fall, since he needs to get his associate degree. Only jucos who are on track to graduate in the spring can sign a fall LOI, and it may be too soon to see if he's on track.

Nope. Not nervous. Some of our best players over the years have ended up being our 3rd or 4th choices.

Great point, I remember when we were all over Wade Knapp, Charlie Coley, and a few other (including a "Mystery Recruit") late in the summer signing period, and there had been some talk of this other JUCO, but not too many people were excited about him... He turned alright.

His Name? Anyone remember that Theron Wilson guy?

I'm OK waiting

I'm OK waiting

I am not nervous, just dissapointed mostly on Rico. We seem to do well getting transfers also when we have open scholarships.

aim high not low...two Valley schools spent a scholarship and significant resources going after kids who dropped their basketball plans to play baseball or a few spent rides on kids who ended up not qualifying...
I'd rather we aim high and then use the scholarship elsewhere when we miss, than aim low, and be stuck with the open schoalrship when the kid doesn't pan out or flops.
Remember when a certain highly touted transfer (who some falsely claimed was the Pac-10 Freshman of the Year) tied up a scholarship at an MVC school for over three years, and in the end he was pretty much a flop who was sent packing while he still had eligibility remaining.

Sent packing? How can you make such blanket statements that you have no way of proving?

"I've had a lot of fun in my two-and-a-half years at Illinois State," said Odzic. "It's been a great experience. I've really enjoyed playing under Coach Jankovich and I've made life-long friends in the process. I'm sad it's over, but I'm also excited to be done with this stage of my life and move onto other things."

"When Sead told me of his decision, I was both excited for him and sad for us, because he's been a joy to coach in the time that I've been here," said Jankovich. "He worked very hard every day. He always brought a great attitude and was a positive contributor to our team. We will all miss him."

not many kids who have been scholarship athletes for 3 years will voluntarily quit unless the opportunity is simply not there...so you can believe what you want...
You probably know that ISU had more kids coming in than they had scholarships available for, so someone had to go...
In fact, someone on this board actually predicted it was going to happen.

and, surprise, it was Odzic and Smith and bingo, the scholarships suddenly opened up..

Smith? Kenyon Smith? He was ruled ineligible by the NCAA. How was his scholarship yanked? Did Jank petition the NCAA to have him ruled ineligible? Come on man... you've got to be kidding me...

duhh....yeah...that means they weren't going to be able to use a scholarship on him, thus his ride is not only open for 2008-2009 but also for 2009-2010...
make sense now?
you need to settle down and let others have an opinion..this is a message board and full of others' opinions.

I have no problem with people posting opinions... it just seems you are stating that it is a fact that Odzic was "sent packing"...

Also, if Jank knew there were questions about Smith's eligibility, wouldn't you expect him to keep recruiting?

That was one of Porter's major mistakes. When Dodie de-committed from ISU, he had NO backup plan what-so-ever. ISU had no point guard for several years under him. Every coach in the country offers more scholarships then they have available. It is a must...

And I still can't tell if you are saying your "opinion" is that Jank was happy and was pushing for the NCAA to rule against Smith's test scores or not?

I am entitled to believe the facts I choose to believe...consider this...

never, ever once has Bradley continued to recruit, offer scholarships, and accept verbals,
and even sign kids to LOI's for scholarships that they DO NOT HAVE available or open...
or for scholarships that BU already has kids on campus filling....
but it is a proven fact that Tim Jankovich does exactly that, so he is "overrecruiting" (Tom Crean does this constantly)
and will be required to Crean his roster and Jank some of the scholarship players' ride. (send them PACKING)
Facts are indeed facts........

Speaking of overrecruiting....It has already been reported (from a highly reliable recruiting site) that despite having NO scholarships available as we speak, and already having a ton of walk ons who are supposedly promised the possibility of a scholarship in the future...
that Jank is pursuing the expelled Diamond Taylor.

Two incorrect statements here:

1. ISU currently has one scholarship open for next year. This includes all of the current eligible scholarship players returning and moving juco transfer Tony Lewis and D1 transfer Trey Blue from walk-ons to scholarship players. So, I should hope that Jank is continuing to recruit.

2. Diamond Taylor was not expelled, he left school. In fact, you used the phrase "Left school" yourself in a previous post. Also, if he had stayed, would he have been expelled? That doesn't look correct either as Glover, the other player in the incident who is still at Wisconsin has not been expelled.

.....and will be required to Crean his roster and Jank some of the scholarship players' ride. (send them PACKING)

Classic! :) I love this! :) Maybe you should send these terms and definitions into Webster's to make it a part of the English language. Lesser words and slangs have been included ;)

I guess it depends what "recruiting" means.
While I'm glad BU does not seem to be accepting verbals/LOI's until they have an open scholie, I'm sure our coaching staff has learned their lesson in the school of hard knocks from enough departures (i.e NBA) and other situations (i.e XC, Brown) that you can never be done actively searching and building/keeping rapport with recruits until the season begins.
