New Class of 2008 Player Ranking

tornado

New member
from USA Today....does it strike anyone as odd that only 3 of the Top 100
are going to mid-majors, or maybe all the mid-major recruits' stock have dropped by signing with mid-majors.
http://www.usatoday.com/sports/coll...-harrington-rankings.htm?loc=interstitialskip

Here's one example....Bill Walker...who had been ranked as high as the #2 kid in the Class of 2007 behind OJ Mayo.
Then he goes to K-State....now mind you, I am not saying he's bad, but after two years of playing at K-State, there are lots of articles saying the kid is nowhere near ready for the NBA like most of the rest of the Top 10 kids from Class of 2007 (Love, Beasley, Bayless, Mayo, etc...)
I suspect some of the mid-major kids will do as well as a few of the top "major" kids, but tend to get overlooked and dismissed in a major publication ranking like this one.

Here's one example....Bill Walker.......

There is more and more talk on the Kansas and K-State boards giving the impression Bill Walker is about to hire an agent and go pro.
Most mock drafts have him in the 2nd round, but most DO expect him to go pro, and he may get into the 1st round as his athleticism will be seen in the workouts which start this month.

Here is yet another new Class of 2008 ranking, and I notice one obvious thing.

Virtually every single kid who had committed to a mid-major has dropped off this list.

ps-- what happened to Anthony Booker (SIU recruit)?
Wasn't he ranked inside the top 30 just a couple months ago?

Here are these same guys' rankings last year and they had Booker in the Top 100, but I guess signing with
a mid-major does you in.............

92. John Brandenburg, 6-11 C, Creve Coeur (MO) DeSmet- VIRGINIA...

here's a name some will remember....John Brandenburg...
a TOP 100 post player from St. Louis area....
he spurned offers from lots of schools nearby such as SLU, SIU, Missouri, Missouri State, Wisconsin, etc... and went to Virginia....
Many thought his Top 100 ranking was overrated, and now a year and a half later...
he is leaving Virginia and looking to transfer elsewhere to get some playing time..
He only got in 8 games and averaged 3 mpg.

at this point, not many schools are sitting on open scholarships for this fall...Bradley has none...ISU has none...(although they could add a walk on)
but SIU maybe has one after running off Roundtree and Cornelius.

John Brandenburg ended up transferring to Colgate, and is just completing the year of redshirting and was planning on playing there next year...
But his plans may yet get derailed again.......
