Cully Payne gets release from Alabama- BU recruit?

As an alum and former member of the Schaumburg Saxon basketball program from 97-99, I take offense to the spelling of Schaumburg with and "e", DC ;)

Honestly, I just wanted to get this in, although if he played at SHS, he can probably play some defense (anybody remember Tony Young?).

I actually knew that.
I had it spelled correctly in my post, just not in the title.
Sorry for the mistake, I corrected it.

Iowa has reportedly offered Payne a scholarship. Lick needs a PG badly.

Lick seems to be recruiting Butler-caliber talent. That isn't going to get it done in the Big 10. From what I have seen, Payne is a lot closer to a Horizon League player than a Big 10 player.

I know they are two totally different players, but this kind of reminds me of the whole Justin Cerasoli debacle. Cerasoli was this highly touted player who was second only to Shaun Livingston as far as hype in the state of Illinois. He was very highly regarded, and I just never saw it. He went to Seton Hall and Ole Miss only to end up at Loyola, where he was an average player on a bad team. I just feel like Payne is kind of the same way - lotta hype, not sure how much substance.

A lot of big ten schools would've been thrilled with Butler's '08 class. Butler-caliber talent is pretty **** good.

several posts on the Iowa boards have now begun to express reservations....

first-- Payne has been injured and unable to play since back in December....some worry that he has NOT demonstrated anything since the injury....what if he is actually unable to even recover?

second-- Iowa needs players who are committed and going to stay! Cully has changed his mind so much it's hard to keep track!! Different high schools, different college commitments...
Here is one comment...
"He has shown to be a little wishy-washy when it comes to where he
wants to play college ball. With our track record of defections, he seems like a
prime candidate. I hope this isnt another here we go again."

third- some think he may be too small or too slow to play in the Big Ten..
"Is he going to be quick enough to defend B10 PGs?"

fourth- now after visiting Iowa and literally saying he was going to commit...
and other insiders and people who knew Cully stating he was going to commit...
he has gone into a silent mode...and nothing further...
fans are worried is he or isn't he going to commit?
If he chooses Iowa is it because it's the only thing out there....what's he waiting for??

hmmm...the perils of recruiting.........but I think he ends up at Iowa, as it'll be his only remaining BCS offer......

I have said all along since I first saw Cully play in the summer events at Richwoods a couple years ago, that he would make a good midmajor PG.
He reminded me of Billy Wright or Shane Laurie - in that he was fairly quick and a good ballhandler & passer but lacked much of an outside shot.
I still think DSE2BU

After four years of hearing and reading reports almost daily of where Cully Payne was pledged and where he was going, where he was visiting, where he was interviewing or shopping his talents....
finally Cully Payne has signed a Letter of Intent, and we will likely NOT be hearing more reports of him decommitting!
