So, did Creighton just blow their chance at an at-large bid?

Not based on losing today, but by the margin of the loss? I don't know. They still have won 12 of 13, and unlike ISU last year, they finished tied for first and had a quality win over Dayton. I still think they are in due to better credentials than last year's ISU team, but losing by 20+ in the semis does them no favors.

It will be a long week for the Valley again this year!

Yes

Yes

Almost every year I think the Valley could have got one more team in the dance. This year I am on the other side of the fence. Unless there are hardly any other upsets in other tournaments I don't think they should go. No team with that many wins has been left out, but they had there chance and the Valley is weak this year. I think they are NIT bound with either
ISU or Northern Iowa. The should have lost to Wichita, and looked terrible against ISU they blew it.

I think Creighton will get in, but...

I think Creighton will get in, but...

I've been to all the games this weekend and Creighton got a great gift last night from the time keeper. And seeing Doug Elgin try to explain the mistake away this afternoon looked well - bad for the Valley in general - of course the officials were right, aren't they always! To bad for Wichita State!

I also witnessed the Creighton student body lose it's collective cool with the remaining Wichita geriatrics cheer group this afternoon with several of the youngsters unable to hold their liquor and thus were ejected from the arena (some forceably). They should have got a night in the St. Louis County jail with a few of the street urchins that surrond this once proud area which has slipped into 'a jungle pit' of a neighborhood (let's go to KC - soon!). And also a couple of 'Ts' should have been dropped on Creighton for their actions! But I'm sure the young jesuit Jay's were provoked by the 70 something Shockers! Remind me never to travel to Omaha for Braves game!

Well back to Creighton and the NCAA, by all accounts (all accounts means Jay Bilas's analysis) they shouldn't get a look let alone a sniff but for some goofy reason I think they will get in - kind of like Bradley - we shouldn't be going anywhere but we probably will - who knows maybe we'll get in some tournament and get a chance to avenge our loss to Wisconsin-P'ville!

I thought CU was a lock but after today they will suffer the same fate as last year's ISU team. YOU CAN'T LOSE BY 20+ AND EXPECT TO GET IN!!!!!!!!!!!!!

They blew it!

Really? Finish fourth in the 9th-ranked conference and you're not one of the top 129 teams in D-1? Interesting.

Creighton does not deserve to go to the dance.

Stole one from WSU and got destroyed by ISU. CU peaked earlier in the season and is on a down hill funk.

I would love to see 2 teams represent the Valley but the way CU is playing they would be a one and done anyway.

CU was on a 11 game win streak coming in I believe...not really a down slide! But I believe they will miss out and be NIT bound.

that is pretty clear...how could the Valley people have missed that evidence so badly.

I am still convinced as I said elsewhere....
the officiating in EVERY game so far has clearly and overtly favored the higher seeded team.

Or it could be that the favored seed is the better team--thus causing the lower seed team to foul more, etc.

I don't think there is an officiating conspiracy in the MVC.

Getting back to the original topic- did Creighton blow their chance at an at-large bid?

The talk coming from the MVC people here in St. Louis is that Creighton's resume is still good enough to get an at-large bid. But that is very wishful thinking. Recall last year that ISU had 25 wins when they lost to Drake in the championship game of the 2008 MVC tournament, and people were saying the same thing about ISU. But when it comes to issuing at-large bids to midmajors like Creighton and ISU, the NCAA looks for reasons not to include them, instead of reasons to include them. Many people think the 30 point blowout to Drake in last year's title game extinguished any chance ISU had, even though the committee is not supposed to consider margin of victory/loss.

I think the large margin by which Creighton was blown out, coupled with their marginal resume will not be enough to get in. Already several upsets in conference tournaments have occurred, with likely more to come. I actually think UNI might have a better at-large chance than Creighton, with their strong finish, and making it to the MVC title game. But most likely we'll get one bid.

Creighton blew its chance at an atlarge.

1) they were blew out.

2) all anyone will see for the next week is the lose not the 11 straight wins. Lucky for CU this game was not on CBS but it was enough for the bobbleheads to pile on CU and help convince the selection committee to drop CU.

I do not believe either that UNI will get an atlarge if they lose today. The Valley is a one bid league regardless of who won the conference championship.

I saw last night before I went to bed that Creighton was listed as one of the Last Four Teams Out. Since they have that weak of a SOS, I don't think even their good RPI can save them.

NIT for sure.

Also, Saturday wasn't the only day several CU students got ejected by security. The same thing happened Friday evening. Before the CU/ISU game yesterday, I told my boys that the most interesting thing about this game may be counting the number of CU students who will get ejected. They did not disappoint. One of the CU students yesterday was physically fighting with security as he was led away...that certainly should have earned him a trip to the jailhouse...

Wow...I honestly thought Creighton was classier than that. I've always had some pretty good respect for them because of their program AND their fans. This year has changed that. I was HAPPY ISU beat them...and that says a lot. They've had too much time in the sun. They got 4th last year and the NIT again this year....and apparently they still need an ego trip.

For me UNI has gone up there, WSU has moved up, and Drake.

I hope next year the "good" teams will be BU, UNI, WSU, DU, MSU, and InSt. That'd be a nice change of pace. I'd love to see creighton, ISU, and SIUC in the lower half. Bunch of "classy" jerks.

Yeah, all this talk of Creighton fans getting kicked out is crazy to me. In my experience they are some of the classiest student fans around. It could be the shear number of them, they travel to St. Louis VERY well, especially considering the distance. But then again the SIU students I ran into were bordering on civil so it could be everything was just crazy in St. Louis... ;)

Must be something in the water...
