Jim Les radio show

Eric Buescher filled in for Jim Les on this morning's show with Greg Batton and Dan Diorio. There was nothing said about where Coach Les was (maybe recruiting?)

Coach Buescher said the team had a day off from practice yesterday. He talked a little about the roles for each of the assistant coaches before and during games.
Then they talked about the Loyola game. Coach Buescher especially praised the efforts of Chris Roberts and Sam Maniscalco in the game. It was good to see Sam play well with the pressure of playing in front of many family and friends. Because of the time of the game (3:00 pm) the entire St. Patrick's basketball team and some coaches were able to be there to watch Sam and Bradley. Then they played a game of their own Saturday night.

Finally, Coach Buescher talked a little about the next game at Evansville, and how you prepare to play a team again you just played last week.

One final topic- Dodie Dunson hurt his hand in the Loyola game. The initial thought was that it was just a bruise. The staff has evaluated it more, and they still think it is just a bruise/sprain, and that it is likely Dodie will be ready to play Wednesday at Evansville. Great news, considering some of the injury issues we have had this year.

Thanks for the report Da, I never remember to listen to the show. I am curious as to the role of the assistants. I know EB keeps the minutes but not much else...

Did it mention when he hurt his hand? Was it towards the end of the game? I recall towards the end of the game Loyola was fouling and ran Dodie out of bounds and into the scorer's table on the side opposite the bench. Dodie hit pretty hard, and I remember thinking to myself that I hoped that on that fluke foul that he didn't get hurt. I hope this doesn't linger. We need Dodie to have any chance in St. Louis.

That was it. It was near the end of the game, when he ran into the scorer's table. He missed 3 of his last 4 free throws after the injury.

Coach Buescher said each coach reviews at least 5 game tapes of each upcoming opponent. Each is responsible for analyzing parts of the opponents' games, and their tendencies, and working it into the game plan. Then during the game, the assistants may need to remind the coach of those observations, and how it affects the actual game and the moves the coach makes.

Uggh. I have no idea why I thought at that moment that he might be injured, but something almost clairvoyant told me that he was hurt. This really stinks.

Is the hurt hand his right or left?

If they haven't already left for Evansville, I will ask him how it's doing in class tomorrow and let everyone know!
