I've never seen a team make so many contested clutch 3s like UNI or a team have so many important shots / layups rattle in and out like ours did. We aren't good enough to blow people out, but we have played well enough to win more games than our record shows. We are really unlucky in close games. We play well, it's not like we absolutely blow it. It's like we're cursed. Tonight's loss was so upsetting. I have never seen anything like that. But props to UNI, after a stretch where they played like crap, they resorted to tough 3s and made them.
The refs sure bulldogged us all night long, but I guess when you even up the score at 12 minutes left, it's sort of a new game. Of course we had 11 fouls and they had 4 at that point. I can't recall seeing a more one-sided game called, like maybe ever, until the last 4 minutes when the refs made some REALLY bad calls in our favor. Not sure where they found those guys, but they need to send 'em back.
I was really really mad about the reffing, but in the end, this game was decided when UNI made some ridiculously heroic shots, and we also let them have a couple of freebies, all-the-while turning it over. As the coach said, we just didn't execute well enough in the end. Anyway, bad loss, and now we gotta go get two on the road.
The refs were fine.We shot more ft's than they did and fouls were 19-18
Were you at the game? I'm not talking numbers, which were pretty even... The refs kind of caught us up at the end, but there were several points scored by UNI in the 2nd half because we had guys in foul trouble. One ref in particular seemed to just kind of hate Theron Wilson. It all started with a really REALLY bad call, Wilson's first, when Wilson was under the ball and the UNI player just shoved him in the back while TW was in the air. Somehow it was whistled on TW. For most of the game a soft touch by a BU player drew a whistle, while any inside shot by a Bradley player involved heavy contact, with almost never any call. Then there was the first half travelling by UNI, which went on all the time, particularly in the paint-- never called. Was all capped off by a really REALLY bad out of bounds play where the UNI guy actually put both feet down out of bounds before passing it, with no call. Then with about 4 minutes left, there were at least 3 really bad calls that helped Bradley out (guess they owed us by then). It was an exceptionally badly reffed game as I saw it.
But... doesn't really matter, you can speculate what might have happened if it was reffed differently, but the truth is, Bradley was up 6 with like 1:40 to play and managed to lose without the refs have anything to with that. So BU lost, and UNI took care of business.
If we see UNI in St Louis, all's I gotta say is... it's gonna be tough for them to beat a team like us 3 times in a season.![]()
Or it's gonna be tough for us to beat them for 9/10ths of a game 3 times in a season.
