Postgame: BU 63 vs InSU 52 Danggummit!

Well, it definately wasn't pretty but it is a road win. We are now 1/3 of the way through the Valley schedule and BU is in first place. It's been a long time since we have been able to say that at this point of the season. Their is a long way to go but for now I'm going to enjoy it :-DGO BRAVES! Let's go sweep SIU!

WE HAVE GOTTA START HITTING FREE THROWS! My goodness. This needs to get fixed right away. I am so proud of this young team and what they are doing but shooting 54% from the free throw line is a tad bit ridiculous. BIG WIN TONIGHT though. This road trip is a big one and for these youngsters to start it off with a W is huge especially after the Creighton loss to come and steal one from the Sycs is great. Thank god these kids are young, it seems that nothing bothers them and that is great! I look forward to the SIU game a very hostile environment, but if any team can pull it off against the dogs, it's these young pups! GO BU!

Yes we are so it's nice to enjoy it now. In a way I think this schedule has turned out in an interesting way for us. It gives us time to hopefully improve with the things we absolutely need to improve on, but it also has shaped up to give us definitely a much harder schedule in the 2nd half than the 1st half.

We now have 12 games left in the conference season and 8 of those are against the top half of the valley. That's tough.

Edit: Actually in our last 8 games of the conference season there is only ONE lower half team that we play and that is MoSt. So we'll see how good this team really is when those games come around.

Yeah, we do have a long way to go, and I'm getting a little worried about the likes of Drake and especially Northern Iowa, considering they got another nice road win tonight. On the other hand, I think Evansville is starting to show their true colors a bit, and maybe we can sweep those guys.

I think winning at SIU is important if we still have desires of winning the Valley this year. A loss to SIU and UNI followed by wins at home against MSU and WSU puts us at 7-3 with some pretty tough games to go. That may put us on track more the NIT, but we still have to take games one at a time. I think winning at SIU will be difficult considering how much of a snake pit Carbondale has been for us in recent years, but maybe we'll get them at the right time, especially if they lose at Creighton tomorrow night.

But 5-1 is nice, and more than I expected after we lost three of our best players this year. This shows our depth, and our talent finally coming together. But we'll see how good they are in the coming weeks.

I was tied up and couldn't get to the game til late in the 2nd 1/2. They were coming out of a time out and Snell said something about 1-11 from 3 and 40% from the FT line and Buescher agreeing it is ugly... and I thought, OMG - how bad IS it??? Down 20? Down 30? Then they say (I think it was Sammy) going to the line to try and make it a 3pt lead.... WHAT???? I about drove off the road!

Great job grinding one out fellas!!!

Let's crank it up and get ready for SIU - I think they might be hungry for a little payback so we need to REALLY be ready!

Didn't see the game at all but when you are 5-1 with 3 road wins in the Valley I don't think you can ask for much more.
It may be ugly but who cares as long as the other team players uglier.

Good job by the Braves

Great defense, great ball movement, great slashing. I know ISU isn't the best team in the world (gotta love the team with teen heartthrob Aaron Carter jacking up errant threes, right?), but we made them look really ugly and careless.

I do feel for them a little bit though.. I mean, I'm always struck by how desolate and dead their arena is. It seems like their students tried to get it going a couple times, but the local support is woefully lacking. So from a student to all you adults (who get too much crap anyway), thanks for being there and preventing us from having that lack of atmosphere. That's probably the only time I'll ever say it, so relish it.

Anyway, I'm more certain now than ever that Les is a talented and constantly improving coach. The defense/slashing approach that still relies on the old 'jack a three/constant motion and great ball movement' offense... It really is a brilliant stroke. I'm glad he's our guy.

Good grind-it-out win.

I am now 3-0 on road games...just got back from INS......my guess woould be 1500-1800 fans with about 50-60 BU fans! Very fun night and meet some posters for the 1st time and think 3 road wins this early in the season is huge! Lets get another one sunday @ siu and change up our luck down there1 :D

PS...didn't see it posted anywhere but DD had a very good game!

Yes he did. His wide body allows him to take it to the rim strong, and he did that well tonight. I would also still encourage him to take those wide open three pointers that he is getting even if his form is pathetic.

Also, they couldn't stop David Collins' little jumpers in the post, so why did we not go to him more? He had a really good game!

Eddren is still working shooting the ball into his game, and it was obvious the shots he did take, he took reluctantly. Even during his little runner in the lane, he wanted to pass and his body was facing the other way, but he was soooo wide open that he had no choice. But I like his progress.

Chris Roberts' and Taylor Brown's shots were good ones, just went in and out. We had very good looks, especially to start out, and it looked like we were actually getting somewhere offensively. However, we kept missing the good looks. We have got to start making these to complement the good ball movement / good defense.

SIU is going down if we play good defense again.

I was there and any road win in the valley without an injury to BU deserves an A in my book! The D' holds INS to 1 field goal in the last 8 minutes ...on the road! You will not dominate very often on any Valley teams home court!

Nice to win another road game. I understand what many posters are worried about with our 3-pt shooting and free-throws. It's been a consistent problem. But then again, there have been games where our free-throws have almost been perfect and 3-pt shooting decent. So, that'll come and go.

Finally though, this team is living up to what Coach Les was preaching early in the season --defense! That's been looking great, and it will definitely keep us in games when our shooting might be off. Even when we have off shooting nights, our team doesn't look rattled.

Haven't we done better the last 5 games or so save for last nite? I would offer its just as blip and blame the arena.....that background has to be a *****. Lets see if they can get it back at SIU.

Maybe all of those empty seats were a distraction. SIU should be much different

Funny story from last night......a INS season ticket holder laughed when we questioned the "jump ball over-rules call from the ref @ half court, thus givving a 2 shot foul to INS with the Braves only having 4 fouls......we here in Indiana foul #4 is 2 free throws!"
Then he asked what we paid for our tickets....they were $25 and he laughed saying that his season tickets were only $48 a year! :o He said if they were more they wouldn't get the 4200 season average a game they get! There was only about 1500-1800 people on the stands...just a guess on my part but WOW! Makes you appreciate the BU home crowd a lot more! "D Oh yeah...for those still wanting a football team...INS went 0-12 last season only lossing just over 1 million dollars!
