Couple o' bright spots from tonight...

Another positive was the little boy who nailed the free throw at the beginning of the half time contest for the longest shot......maybe he has eligibility remaining.

Just a hunch....but I think we will be fine in the Valley.....sometimes young teams play to the level of the team they are playing against

I agree. Just based off of my gut I think we beat SIUC. You said it perfectly, I think we are a team that plays to the level of competition. Believe me if you look at my posts I'm not one of the kool-aid drinkers. I am upset, frustrated, and worried; and I don't lay significance on a win is a win. A 30 point win in this game is much different than a 6 point win. So therefore I'm not like some who are being accused of wearing "rose colored glasses" or w/e, but as of right now I think we'll be ok, but I truly mean ok as in average. Just based on my gut though...if I go with my head I'd like to SCREAM "thursday night in STL"

I guess this makes me a moderate.

I think we are truly going to have to take each and every game at a time this season.

hmmm...I don't know why all the pessimism....I saw a win against a team roughly on par with all the opponents ISU is getting nice writeups for beating.
Maybe the pessimists would have been happier if our schedule was full of Morehead State's and Alabama State's so we could win them all?

http://bradleyfans.com/vb/showthread.php?t=10399

It's not pessimism if the facts support it. We're just not a very good team right now with a lot of fundamentals to address.

As far as I know, no one on this board is doing those "nice writeups" on ISU's wins. In fact, with the way we performed last night, we might not even win out with ISU's schedule.

ss-- I agree we are not a very good team right now, but we have 3 potential starters out and are playing with all freshmen and other 1st & 2nd year guys.
We can find things to dwell on and agonize over and we can find things to criticize, but will that make things better?

I still enjoy the games, and despite being a holiday, students gone, non-marquee opponent, and horrible weather....we still had well over 8000 fans enjoying a win...that gives us a winning record and an RPI nearly as good as the team down the road with an 11-0 record. (our home attendance is nearly double or more what most of the Valley draws.)
Seems we might just have more to be thankful for than to criticize, but I guess that won't stop people from doing so, it's their constitutional right, you know...

I think there's a whole lot of folks channelling their inner Chip Diller about this year.....

It's a helluva lot easier to play down to a team (which we've done A LOT this year) than to magically get more ability/eyesight/decision making/etc. and play UP to a team.

I'm afraid. Very afraid.

I don't know where all the negativism comes from, but from what I saw-

Theron Wilson, Sam Maniscalco, and Chris Roberts played great.
David Collins had a much better game. Eddren was solid again, too.

And, Bradley controlled the game, and won easily. Now on the the MVC season. I am confident Bradley will be 1-0 after Sunday.

I am sorry! I really don't want to sound negative, but they were absolutely terrible! Theron had 6 turnovers. Sam was 2 of 5 from the free throw line. Chris scored 2-4 points. David Collins was treying to set the worst screens that I ever saw, and looked lost on defense time after time, and Edren scored 1 point. All of this against a terrible team. Were you at the same game that I was?

Yes, and I noted we were in trouble right from the tip w/ the lineup Les drew up...

No offense to Chris but he hasn't exactly meritted a start...

What happened to Dodie?! He's played the best of anyone and doesn't get the time...

If we start this exact lineup on Sunday, expect to be in a hole early...

When Collins and Maniscalco hit the bench in the 1st half, we were +11 until they both returned...what does that tell you?

Dodie and McCain should be starting at the guard positions and Theron and Taylor should be the starting forwards...

IF we start w/ Sam on Mullins Sunday, it will be a LONG day!

Yes, but I stated the positives I saw, and you countered with only a few negatives that you saw. Did you see the same positive things I mentioned?
By the way-
Theron's 6 turnovers was an aberration, he has never done that before.
Sam's free throw shooting was an abberation, too. He is a very good fre throw shooter, or have you not seen any of his other games the last 1 1/2 years?
Chris played great and helped the team, he doesn't need to look for his shot every game.
Eddren played very good. Remember, he is still just a freshman.
And Collins was not called for a single illegal creen last night, so maybe the refs missed what you saw.

C'mon now DC...you're better than this!

He had 5 TO's against Butler this year and had 4 vs ISU last year as well as 9 turnovers vs Drake...yes, I did say NINE.

I will agree on Eddren though other than he seemed to be "told" not to shoot by someone...hesistant to take anything all night...

Sam has had just a couple rough nights from the line this year (4-8 and 2-5)..that in itself is interesting because Sammy NEVER missed more than 2 FT's in a game all year last year...

As I stated before, I still think he's better suited to be our 6th man and he plays too many minutes...especially for a guy who all year so far has had nagging injuries and sickness to deal w/...

Oh and DC, I do think you're doing a good job...seeming to do a good job of walking the fine line of realism vs bias.

I do not think DC is loss on D as much as hesitant. If he would just step up bigger then just maybe we could have his presence felt on all aspects of D. He did block a few shots!

On O we cannot for our life learn how to pass the ball to our bigs. When the bigs get the ball inside the blocks good things happen.

Our FT shooting is scary ugly and this is one area everyone has to agree on. Overall our guys need to settle down a bit on all aspects of the game except on D where we need to get in the opponents face and learn how to play off a slip screen. They ran that play around a dozen times and were pretty succesful. I would have kept running it until we could stop it. If I'm SIU-C I'd be practicing it all week.

SM is golden when he has his feet set and is squared away! We need to set him up a lot more for set shots. That means the ball needs to be in McCain's hands and he needs to learn to make better decisions. My advice to him is slow down a bit.

FWIW, this sounds exactly right to me in terms of game performance and who should be getting minutes. DD, EM, TR and TW (maybe with AT?) have to be the guys right now.

This year might get bad enough that I can get better season tickets next year! Gotta find a bright spot somewhere even if it is a selfish one at that!

Don't get your hopes up too much george. I have heard that there is a long list of people who want better season tix. I give a lot more than my maintenance requires, and I have not been able to get moved to a better seat in the past several years.
