Games of Interest, 12/17

Had ISU lost, it not only would have been embarrassing (to lose to a 257 RPI team), but also it would have been doubly
embarrassing, as one of the ISU players got "T"'ed up for taunting and CMU shot the technicals.
If you are 10-0, do you really need to taunt and trash-talk a 257 RPI team at the risk of losing the game?

ISU opponents' combined record v. DI....23-58 and not one of their opponents has a win over any team whose RPI is better than 146.
(just for comparison, there were people saying BU's non-conference opponents were on par with the ball played at the "Y", and yet BU's
opponents' record v. DI is 42-35 with 14 wins over teams with RPI's considerably better than the 146.

Central Michigan must be pretty good to hang with one of the last undefeated teams in the country!

I wonder how many isu fans will come out to watch their 10-0 team against the marquee team on their schedule this weekend. Of course, it might be too cold.....or there might be a high school basketball game......

I will start the excuses for the attendance now... students are on break... and we are supposed to get a bunch of nasty... real nasty weather... not that it would be a great turnout if the weather is good...

A very ugly win for ISU but I am pretty sure winning ugly is better then losing pretty...

And we can still say something not may other (if any at all) valley teams can say...NO BAD LOSSES

I agree....it is better for ISU to win these games, obviously than to lose them, but look how ISU's RPI climbed only from 102 to 96 with this win.

I'm actually surprised it didn't drop... a win over current RPI #52 in UIC will help alot... but if we play like we have the last 2... we will not win

NIUs Jake Anderson is in his 2nd season playing for them, but this is his 3rd year at NIU and his first year he was academically ineligible.
Kowal is also a 3rd year sophomore. They are a young inexperienced team, but I have sincere doubts they will develop under coach Patton at NIU.
There was almost no recognizable offense, and the shot selection was horrible.
SIU was allowed to shoot an astounding 59% from the floor and 58% from 3-pt range, and SIU is a team that came into the game averaging only 63 ppg on 41% FG shooting and under 40% 3-pt shooting.

Just heard this from an ISU fan: "attendence will be down for the UIC game because Vince Gill is performing in B\N and the Illini-Det game is on TV."

Last time I checked, there are no style points earned in games. So while last night certainly wasn't pretty, I'll take the win, whether it was by 1 or 50. We didn't play very well for our 2nd straight game. There was a lid on the basket in the first half, and OE and Champ basically traded places---OE was ice cold against Morehead and Champ was hot, then it was vice versa last night. It is good to know however, that those 2 have a good enough supporting cast to where we can figure out ways to win when one of them is having an off night, and/or the team as a whole isn't playing well. We haven't played totally well the last 2 outings, but we've managed to get the wins. That's all that matters.

As for Saturday, big game against UIC. Regarding the attedndance, Fan21 already covered it---but yea, it probably won't be good. The weather is supposed to get nasty and that will be the biggest factor. (Some people actually might care about a Vince Gill/Amy Grant concert too apparently?). Students are gone but a lot were/are planning on being back for most games over break, this one included. How many will be able to drive back if the weather turns sour remains to be seen. I think the game would've/might draw OK if the weather cooperates, but if not, it'll be just like our UIC game last year. Mirror image actually---that game sold around 8K tickets, but there was a terrible ice storm the morning of the game that lasted all day/night and only 4800 ended up being at the game.

Hmmmm....one game after Osiris went completely scoreless from the floor, Oguchi did the same, missing every shot he took.

in Re: to the attendance...

good thing Gallagher isn't appearing cross town or the Hooters isn't offering half priced beers....

They had it planned that way :)

Gallagher maybe, but half price beer night @ Hooters would definately kill our crowd lol
