Sam Singh has surgery.....

Also included in the story was this:

Regarding Warren, Les confirmed that a microfracture may be present at the tip of the screw that was inserted in his foot during the September surgery, causing him recurring pain. Warren has still not returned to practice as his workouts continue to be confined to individual conditioning and light shooting.

"Andrew's initial fracture is completely healed," Les said. "There are no issues or pain there. I wouldn't say he's having a lot of pain because of either the microfracture or soft tissue (problem), but enough so that he's not participating in any part of practice."

A decision on whether to seek a medical hardship for Warren is still weeks away, Les said.

Get well quickly, Sam!

Though it was left open, I'd be surprised if Sam can play Saturday.

The article also discusses Andrew Warren's situation, and it sounds possible that he might even try to play in some of the upcoming games to test the foot before a decision on redshirting is made.

Regardless of what Les has said and what may or may not have been said by AW's mother, I don't see any possible way he plays again this year.

How many people can we redshirt? Just redshirt SS and AW and save them for next year. Screwed this year anyways.

I'm not sure we have any "confirmed" or "official" right now since the NCAA doesn't grant these things until after the season is over. Not quite sure why it's appropriate to speculate on JR and WE when nothing has been ruled on by the NCAA, but it's not ok to speculate on AW.

just to be precise, AW is NOT eligible for a true "redshirt" as he already played in an exhibition.
He is, however, eligible for a medical hardship waiver (often called a medical redshirt, although not officially called that by NCAA).

Just so you know JL said the very same thing that AW's mom reported to those of us chatting during the Mich St. game. I'm pretty positive that the ultimate decision will be made by AW's family. I'm sure JL and the staff want to see him at 100% before he starts to play. One thing about BU is that we do not pressure our kids to play when hurt.

I was under the impression that a player can play in the exhibition games and still receive a redshirt. I thought it was only once they had appeared in a regular season game that the redshirt was no longer an option. I don't know for sure though, you very well good be right.

That is only the case for new players. That could have been true for the freshman or JUCO transfers this year, but not AW because he has played for BU before.

that is right...any incoming freshman or juco kid can play in the exhibitions, but NOT a returning player, or he loses his automatic redshirt eligibility.
That's why Anthony Thompson DID play in the exhibitions and DID redshirt and it's why we are only talking medical hardship waiver on Andrew Warren and NOT talking any automatic redshirt, since Andrew did play in one exhibition.

I think the NCAA calls it a "suspension" due to a broken foot....:)

Seeing as how they now know he has a microfracture near the inserted screw, it's likely the doctor will determine if playing will further injure him. If it doesn't, then they'll likely determine how much pain Warren can play with. I say they just shut him down right now, fix the fracture and give him a full 11 months or so of healing. That will guarantee that his foot heals up and gives our youngsters some more time to gel.
