Last ride for 2009....

I'm going to go a little different way here. If Warren ends up getting a RS, I think we have enough shooters: Warren, Norris, Sam (at the 2). Then we have big guys coming in that supposedly can shoot it: Wilkins, MK, (include JP mid-range). We wouldn't be lights out, but I don't think we will be relying on 3's as much with 5 or 6 guys splitting the time at 4/5.

I'm thinking that in 2010-2011, we need to have someone ready to take the place of Dunson and Roberts. One will be replaced with Harris and we will be sitting with 4 guards and Wilkins that year, so right now it looks like we NEED a guard with the last schollie. While a guy that can shoot would be nice, I think we are going to need a shut down defender more than a shooter that year after Dodie leaves. Plus, it gives us one year for Dodie's defense to rub off on this last mystery guy.

I would rank our needs like this:
1a. A lockdown defender
1b. A lights out shooter
3. A true point guard or a big, athletic guard

All three of those needs are filled with Darius Smith. Maybe he isn't an unbelievable shooter, but he can score. Seems like he is going to stack offers, but if none come from a UNC, Duke, etc. I won't count us out. If he would just get down here for a visit we might convince him. Hopefully, his next visit to Peoria isn't for the state finals.

I don't know a whole lot about what's left out there to be totally honest. A Matt Roth departure? I don't see us going to JUCO, unless it's a top-15 guy.

I'll also start the official Get Gully fan club. He put up some numbers against some good D1-caliber competition vs North Lawndale. I'm planning to go catch some of his games. And as a White Sox fan, this kid sounds like Minnesota Twin so get him.

We need a 6-4 or 6-5 freshman guard so that we have 3 freshman in next years class; remember that we now have 6 players in the 2008-09 class (McCain, Norris, Brown,Thompson,Egolf, and Wilkins) we do not want to have a re-building year after these players graduate so it is important to add another freshman to next seasons class.

Ok.....then we have two freshmen the following year. I don't see the difference between having 3 this year and 2 the following year or vice-versa. I just don't see the point in filling a scholarship just for the point of filling it. Besides, Harris will be in the same class as Prosser and Knezevic when they're sophomores. So we'll have three in that class.

A 6'3" center from a Chicago team....that ends up being a great shooter :)

A 6'8" kid by the name of Mitchell.....

A 6'6" kid with the initials AP

Seriously......Get Smith!

Having 3 in that class is important and a 4th would be even better since we would be losing 6 right before their senior year.

If Warren redshirts and we fill the remaining 2009 scholarship, that only leaves one scholarship for the 2010 recruiting class. I think we need at least two in each class. That's my point in not worrying about filling the 2009 scholarship unless we're able to get one of the players that we're REALLY interested in.

The only other player to get would be if a true 5 either juco or a high school became available....I'm talking about a man-child...6'9 250lbs now....and an attitude...if you look at the way recruiting has been going...it will be harder to play small-ball with JW 6'9, JP 6'8, MK 6'8 and in two years SH 6'7.....WE 6'9 and AT 6'10 will still be here....one more horse would not hurt if AW ends up red-shirting!

I agree with a true 5 as a top recruiting target for 2009, although I'd stick with HS. We'd need time to develop the big so He could step-in after we loose AT and WE, and a juco would not give us the time to develop the talent we need for the future.

A basketball player, not an athlete. Preferably a shooter. Anyone who looks like they would fit at Butler.

That is a perfect response. I agree 100%. Someone like Jeremy Crouch or Aarron Zobrist would be ideal.

Would love another Mike Williams, Donald Reese or Luke Jackson! :D

Or go back a bit further... I'll take a "Big" Mike Davis type. Or, how about another Robert Jenkins (even though he was not as tall) or a lockdown defender and rebounder like Harold McMath? (Man I'm old)

I think you have to go with a shooter with the last scholy. At this point we have quite a bit of size and I think you really need a 4-year kid who can shoot. We'll have Warren for 1 or 2 years while we give a recruit time to develop. Another big guy yields too lopsided a squad. Even if Warren redshirts that would leave Warren and SM in the same class ready to graduate in two years. Without another shooter recruited Darian would be the lone 2-guard option.

GTD,,,,"you had me at Big Mike Davis! " How about another Joe Allen? Too young to have seen McMath play....and I do not know who Jenkins is?
